Pakistan lead by 143 as an intriguing final day approaches

Brighton/Hove – July 9, 2016: Before play began on day 2, both teams observed a minute’s silence as a mark of remembrance for the philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi. The Pakistan team also wore black armbands, and collectively offered a prayer for Edhi.

Pakistan declared on their overnight score of 363-5.

Sussex got off to a flier and had knocked 57 runs off the first nine overs. By lunch, they were coasting at 120-0, with Luke Wells having reached his fifty off just 54 balls.

The openers carried on in the same vein after lunch and Wells and Finch accumulated a two hundred opening partnership.

Finally with the score at 212 Wells was removed for 93 with a flat-footed drive at Wahab which he edged behind. Now Wahab was generating good pace.

In an excellent innings Harry Finch reached his century with a crunching square drive off 138 balls. 

However two balls later, Finch was out driving at Wahab, as he edged to slip for 103. The score was now 228 for 2 and Wahab was bowling well.

The third wicket fell at 233 with Machan played across the line and fell lbw to Imran Khan. 

Another wicket fell the next ball and Imran was on a hat-trick, with Brown driving at a wide one was caught behind. 

Sussex sportingly declared 72 runs behind Pakistan’s first innings total on 291 for 5 and it was clearly the case that Pakistan's bowlers got better during the day.

Pakistan second innings began with a solid start from both openers before eventually Archer snagged Mohammad Hafeez for 23.

By close of play Pakistan, had reached 71-1 and a lead of 143 setting up an intriguing final day of this tour match.
