Imad Wasim ruled out of T20Is against England

Bilal Asif to stay on with the squad

LAHORE–November 20, 2015: All-rounder Imad Wasim has been ruled out of the squad for the three T20Is against England after not recovering sufficiently from his fracture injury to his left little finger.

Bilal Asif would thus stay on as part of the T20Is outfit in his place, as replacement named by the selection committee headed by Haroon Rashid at the time of announcement of the squad on Nov. 12 in case Imad didn’t recover in time.

Health Bulletin by Dr. Sohail Saleem, Head of PCB’s Medical & Sports Sciences:

“Imad Wasim injured his left little finger while playing in Islamabad on October 26, 2015. After inspection, regional physiotherapist Islamabad Region, decided to acquire X-ray images and consult a local orthopedic consultant in Islamabad. He was diagnosed with fracture of the proximal phalanx of left little finger. A closed reduction with K-Wire fixation was done on October 27, 2015 and he was advised complete rest for the succeeding three weeks.

“His examination on November 17, 2015 demonstrated slight stiffness with absence of both tenderness and swelling. Orthopedic surgeon removed the K-wire and advised him protective splint for the next six days.

“I examined him on the November 19, 2015 at NCA. There was stiffness, swelling and pain at the medial and lateral corners and decrease in the range of the movement at the proximal and distal inter-phalangeal joints. His X-ray the same afternoon revealed “residual impaction and mild displacement of bony fragments with extension of fracture into joint line with mild residual middle inter-phalangeal joint subluxation. There is apparently no bony union visible across the fracture fragments at this stage".

Conclusion

“I don't think there is enough healing to allow him to play international cricket at this stage for the fear of further damaging the joint. I will wait for another two weeks for another review. So, unfortunately his prospects of representing Pakistan in T20Is against England are non-existent. Meanwhile, he has been advised to stay in NCA to work on his fitness.”
