Mohammad Hafeez declared fit for selection

LAHORE–October 16, 2014: Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has been declared fit to play after he was put through batting, bowling, fielding sessions for the last three days here at the National Cricket Academy and Gaddafi Stadium.

After the batting session on Thursday, Dr. Sohail Saleem, General Manager, Sports Medicine, PCB, under whose watch Hafeez was undergoing recovery and rehab, declared him “ready to play”, with one proviso. While bowling and fielding, Hafeez has been advised to wear support for the next few days.

Hafeez had suffered a deep laceration to the base of the left thumb while fielding a firmly struck ball during a warm up 50 over match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on October 3, 2014. The web space between the left thumb and index was deeply lacerated. The wound required five sutures, and Hafeez was sent back from the UAE to NCA for recovery.

Health Bulletin Updates on Junaid Khan and Wahab Riaz shall be issued in due course, after obtaining the results of fresh scans and specialist reports.

Transcript of Dr. Sohail Saleem’s Medical Report on Mohammad Hafeez:

“I have examined Mohammad Hafeez while batting at the nets today. He batted about half an hour without support and any signs of discomfort. For the previous two days, he had been batting with the help of support.

“On examination after batting his wound was completely dry and the edges of the wound have closed without any sign of inflammation. The strength of all the muscles around the thumb also seems to be fully restored.

“In my opinion he is ready to play. It is however advised that he should use support while bowling and fielding for the next few days.”
