Ali, Basit and Farooq score half-centuries on opening day of round three

Karachi, 10 August 2022: Three half-centuries were scored on the first day of the third round matches of the National U19 Championship in Karachi on Wednesday. Due to rain, the afternoon session was interrupted at all six venues of the city.

Pool A fixtures:

At the Hanif Mohammad HPC Ground, after opting to bat first, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Blues scored 92 for two in 25 overs against Northern U19 Blues when rain disrupted the play and no play took place later in the day. Opening batter Mohammad Farooq top-scored with a 76-ball 54, hitting 11 fours.

At the TMC Ground, in 31.2 overs play, Balochistan U19 Blues after being put into bat were 97 for four against Sindh U19 Blues. Opening batter Basit Ali scored 60 off 84 balls, which included seven fours and two sixes.

For Sindh U19 Blues, left-arm orthodox Ziaullah bagged three wickets for 15.

In the third fixture of the group, after opting to bat first, Southern Punjab U19 Blues scored 91 for two in 29 overs against Central Punjab U19 Blues at the KCCA Ground. The right-handed opening batter Sharjeel Hassan returned undefeated on 33 off 75 balls faced. His innings included five boundaries during 116-minute stay at the crease.

Pool B fixtures:

At the UBL Sports Complex, Sindh U19 Whites after being put into bat by Balochistan U19 Whites scored 120 for three from 30 overs when stumps were drawn early due to rain. Opening batter Ali Ishaq top-scored with a 55-ball 57, which included 11 fours. The left-handed batter knitted a 90-run opening wicket partnership with Hamza Qureshi (33 off 69, six fours).

For Balochistan U19 Whites, right-arm off-spinner Mohsin Ali grabbed all three wickets to fall for 20 runs.

At the NBP Sports Complex, only 28.2 overs of play were made possible between Northern U19 Whites and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Whites. Northern Whites after being asked to bat scored 53 for three. For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Whites, Mohammad Irfan took two wickets for six runs from nine overs.

In the third fixture of the group, Central Punjab U19 Whites after opting to bat first against Southern Punjab U19 Whites scored 68 for three in 28 overs at the Rashid Latif Cricket Academy. Usman Nadeem coming to bat at number three top-scored with an unbeaten 26 off 69 balls and struck two boundaries.
