Karachi, 23 December 2025: Right-arm pacer Arshad Iqbal’s five for 43 restricted Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) to 242 all out in 48.2 overs in reply to Khan Research Laboratories’ (KRL) 255-run total, built around Waqar Ahmed’s 94 and Saad Baig’s 77, in the second semi-final of the President’s Cup Grade-I 2025-26 here at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi on Tuesday night.
KRL will now face Pakistan Television in the final of the tournament on 25 December at the same venue with the first ball expected to be bowled at 2pm.
Arshad Iqbal’s figures of 10-0-43-5 spearheaded KRL’s bowling effort after spinner Hamza Nazar’s 2-46 sparked SNGPL’s collapse, as they slid from 198 for three in 36.4 overs to 242 all out, losing their last seven wickets for just 44 runs.
Hamza got rid of Kamran Ghulam (34, 47b, 2x4s) in the 37th over and Muhammad Shahzad in the 39th, leaving SNGPL 213-5. Four deliveries later, Arshad removed the top-scorer Saad Khan, who contributed a 81-ball 66 comprising seven fours.
Arshad then bagged the scalps of Sajid Khan and Muhammad Salman, who both departed without troubling the scorers in the 42nd over as SNGPL dropped from 213-4 to 215-8, losing four wickets for just two runs.
Muhammad Awais Zafar (20, 25b, 1x4, 1x6) and Shahnawaz Ali Dahani were the final two wickets to fall as SNGPL folded on 242 in 48.2 overs, falling 13 runs short.
Earlier, Omair bin Yousuf (57, 57b, 8x4s, 1x6) had put together 76 runs with skipper Shan Masood (37, 35b, 3x4s, 1x6) as the duo got together after SNGPL had lost opening batter Haseebullah to player of the match Arshad in the fifth over with 31 runs on the board.
For KRL, Arshad and Hamza Nazar were aided by one wicket apiece from skipper Iftikhar Ahmed (1-46) and Ahmed Bashir (1-59).
After being asked to bat, KRL lost opening batter Shahzaib Khan after 3.2 overs as the scoreboard read 16-1. Saad Baig and top-scorer Waqar then knitted a 113-run partnership for the second wicket, before the former was dismissed after scoring an 83-ball 77 comprising 12 boundaries.
Waqar kept the runs flowing as he built a 74-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Ahmad Hassan, who scored a 45-ball 43, including three fours and two sixes.
Pacer Mohammad Salman spearheaded the SNGPL bowling attack with career-best List A figures of 6-42 as KRL slumped from 233-3 to 255 all out, losing their last seven wickets for 22 runs. Athar Mehmood also picked up 2-62 in his 10 overs.
