CP Blues' Azan scores century; Northern Whites' Nabeel takes five-for

Karachi, 4 August 2022: Central Punjab U19 Blues Azan Awais scores an unbeaten century against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Blues on day one of the second round match of the Pool A of National U19 Championship on Thursday. In Pool B match, Northern U19 Whites’ Mohammad Nabeel bagged five wickets to dismiss Balochistan U19 Whites for 77 at the KCA Stadium.

Pool A fixtures:

At the NBP Sports Complex, opting to bat first, Central Punjab Blues scored 284 for eight in 83 overs on the back of an unbeaten 128 by Azan Awais. The left-handed opening batter Azan struck 12 boundaries off 217 balls faced. Mohammad Waqas batting at number four scored 45.

For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Blues, Khubaib Khalil and Mohammad Zubair bagged two wickets apiece.

In return, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Blues were 22 for one in 4.5 overs when stumps were drawn.

At the UBL Sports Complex, after being put into bat, Northern U19 Blues were bowled out for 253 from 77.3 overs. Balochistan U19 Blues’ Adnan Iqbal and Arbaz Khan grabbed four wickets apiece. For the batting side, captain Shamyl Hussain top-scored with 39, while Mohammad Aftab and Affan Ishaq scored 35 and 33 runs, respectively.

At stumps, Balochistan U19 Blues were 35 for no loss in 10 overs.

In the third fixture of Pool A, 16 wickets fell at the Rashid Latif Cricket Ground between Sindh U19 Blues and Southern Punjab U19 Blues. After opting to bat first, Sindh U19 Blues declared their first innings on 149 for nine in 41 overs. Haroon Arshad top-scored with 44 off 55 balls, smashing three fours and one six.

For Southern Punjab U19 Blues, Bilal Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers with figures of three for 47 from 16 overs. Huzaifa Ayub took two wickets for 22 runs from six overs.

In reply, at stumps, Southern Punjab U19 Blues were 122 for seven in 53 overs. Mohammad Zahid coming to bat at number eight top-scored with an unbeaten 43 off 76 balls, which included four fours.

For Sindh U19 Blues, Afnan Khan and Naveed Ahmed Khan bagged three wickets each.

Pool B fixtures:

At the KCCA Ground, Northern U19 Whites right-arm fast bowler Mohammad Nabeel picked five wickets for 15 runs to bowl out Balochistan U19 Whites for 77 in 47 over after opting to bat first. Balochistan Whites’ Abdul Saboor (29) and Mohammad Siddique (27) managed to enter into double figures.

Northern Whites’ Nabeel was equally supported by Abdul Basit 14-4-33-3 and Mohammad Arshad 08-3-12-2.

In response, Northern U19 Whites were 94 for three in 49 overs when stumps were called. Mohammad Ammar was unbeaten on 32, while Shahmeer Ali returned undefeated on 24.

At the HPC National Stadium Ground, Karachi, half-centuries by Haseeb Nazim (66, 115b, eight fours), Husnain Majid (60, 108b, eight fours) and Mohammad Uzair Mumtaz (56, 96b, nine fours) helped Southern Punjab U19 Whites post 331 for nine in 83 overs.

For Sindh U19 Whites, Abdul Moeez and Mohammad Fahad Amin bagged three wickets each, while Saqlain Nawaz took two wickets for 50.

At stumps, Sindh U19 Whites were 16 for one in five overs.

In the third fixture of the pool, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Whites scored 254 for eight against Central Punjab U19 Whites at the TMC Ground. Opting to bat first, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Whites Ahmed Hussain top-scored with 72 off 164 balls, which included seven fours. He was supported by Zubair Shinwari who scored 66 off 146 balls, hitting six fours. The pair added 114 runs for the sixth wicket.

For Central Punjab U19 Whites, Hassan Ali bagged four wickets, while Syed Hassan Gillani took two wickets for 59.

In reply, Central Punjab U19 Whites were nine for no loss in five overs when stumps were drawn.
