Lahore, 24 September 2025: The race for Quaid-e-Azam Trophy qualification in Group B was won by Asif Afridi-led FATA, who beat DM Jamali and innings and 37 runs to bag fourth win in the tournament as day three of the last round of Hanif Mohammad Trophy concluded.
Apart from FATA’s success on day three, Quetta’s Bismillah Khan headlined the day with a triple century as his team staged resistance against Lahore Blues.
Group A
Quetta’s Bismillah Khan struck the highest individual score of the ongoing Hanif Mohammad Trophy as he registered a triple century (319, 343b, 36x4s, 9x6s) to help his team post 552 all out in response to Lahore Blues’ 450 all out at the Abbasia Sports Complex, Rahim Yar Khan.
Bismillah resumed from overnight score of 173 and stitched a 188-run stand with no.9 batter Mohammad Javed (85 not out, 157b, 10x4s, 3x6s) as Quetta turned their yesterday’s score of 303-6 to 552 in 155.5 overs. For Lahore Blues, Sajjad Khan bagged five wickets.
In turn, Lahore Blues were 144-1 in 34 overs with a 42-run second innings lead at close of play on day three.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir were made to follow-on at the Multan Cricket Stadium after they collapsed for 175 all out from their overnight score of 113-1 in response to Karachi Whites’ first innings total of 450-8. Whites’ Rehman Ghani picked up 5-50 in 22.3 overs.
In their second dig, AJK were 152-3 in 52 overs at close of play and still 123 runs behind.
Faisalabad – table toppers in group A - set a target of 362 runs for Hyderabad on day three after posting 381 runs in their second innings overcoming a slim 20-run first innings deficit at the Dring Stadium in Bahawalpur. At Stumps Hyderabad were five for no loss in one over.
Earlier, Faisalabad’s opening batter Faham-ul-Haq (101, 177b, 12x4s) and no.3 batter Asim Ali Nasir (129, 190b, 19x4s) struck centuries to take their team to a big total. The duo also put on a 149-run partnership for the second wicket.
For Hyderabad, Jawad Ali picked up 5-137 taking his match tally to 11 wickets.
Group B
From Group B, FATA secured their qualification for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2025-26 after they topped the group with four wins out of five matches. On day three of their last round fixture, FATA skittled Dera Murad Jamali for 121 after making them follow-on day two.
FATA’s first innings total of 311 remained elusive for DM Jamali who managed 153 and 121 in two digs as Asif Afridi bagged a match haul of 8-39 in 23.3 overs.
Karachi Blues’ Mohammad Asghar’s 8-117 in the second innings and a match haul of 14 wickets led his team to a nine-wicket victory over Rawalpindi at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi as they finished their campaign with three wins out of five games.
On day three, Rawalpindi began their second innings from 100-2 in 27 overs and were dismissed for 285 in 76.3 overs – managing a meagre 44-run second innings lead - with Abdul Faseeh (91, 150b, 10x4s, 1x6) and Mubasir Khan (88 not out, 93b, 7x4s, 4x6s).
Blues razed the 45-run target in 5.5 overs losing Abdullah Fazal in the process for four.
Larkana were 64 runs behind Multan as they were 121-5 in 35 overs in their second innings at close of play at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi. Earlier, Multan were bowled out for 514 in 119 overs - managing a 185-run first innings lead – after they resumed from their overnight score of 322-1 in 77 overs. Larkana’s Zahid Mehmood snapped four wickets.
