Ghani Glass' Mir Hamza, KRL's Arshad Iqbal bag five-fors on rain-hit day two

Karachi, 22 January 2026: The second day of the fifth round of President’s Trophy Grade-I 2025-26 was hit by rain as play was called off earlier than the scheduled end time at SBP Sports Complex, KCCA Stadium and UBL Sports Complex, while the game at National Bank Stadium, Karachi resumed for the last hour on Thursday.

At the National Bank Stadium, only 45.3 overs were possible as Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) added 144 runs to their overnight score of 308-4 in 86 overs, getting bowled out for 452 in 122.3 overs. Test fast bowler Mir Hamza bagged his 33rd first-class five-for and third in last three games.

SNGPL’s overnight centurion Mubasir Khan fell for 129 off 206 balls hitting 14 fours as his brilliant fifth-wicket partnership with Muhammad Awais Zafar ended for 249. Awais fell two runs short of his eighth first-class century as he managed 98 off 177 balls on the back of 11 fours and two sixes.

Saifullah Bangash (47, 81b, 7x4s) and Sajid Khan (30, 36b, 4x4s) chipped in with valuable contributions as SNGPL posted a commendable total. For Ghani Glass, Khurram Shahzad, Noman Ali, Ali Shabbir and Ali Razzaq dismissed one batter each besides Hamza’s five for 67 in 27.3 overs.

In turn, Ghani Glass were 37 for two in nine overs with Shehzad Gul claiming both the scalps in his five overs.

At the UBL Sports Complex, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) were 88-4 in 26.1 overs in reply to Pakistan Television’s 414 all out in 102.1 overs as only 41.2 overs were bowled in the day. For PTV, Ali Usman and Amad Butt had taken two wickets each.

KRL’s Imran Rafiq (30 not out, 44b, 6x4s) and Sarmad Bhatti (12 not out, 25b, 2x4s) were at the crease after they lost four wickets for 52 runs.

Earlier, PTV’s Mohammad Taha brought up his third first-class century (119, 209b, 13x4s, 2x6s) after resuming from overnight score of 82 not out and his team at 348-6 in 87 overs. No.10 batter Musa Khan contributed 23 off the 66 runs added by PTV on day two.

KRL pacer Arshad Iqbal picked up his third first-class five-for as he returned figures of 25.1-5-100-5, while he was supported by Mohammad Hamza (3-106) and Aqib Liaqat (2-73).

Only 35 overs were bowled at the SBP Sports Complex between Sahir Associates and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) before rain played spoilsport.

SBP were 73 for 1 in 29 overs at close, trailing by 167 more runs, with Abdullah Fazal (36 not out, 91b, 5x4s) and Mohammad Huraira (14, 44b, 3x4s) in the middle following skipper Hasan Raza’s departure for a 41-ball 16 inclusive of two fours.

Earlier, Sahir Associates were dismissed for 240 in 89 overs, losing three for 11 in six overs in the morning after resuming from overnight score of 229-7.

Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) got 44 runs ahead of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) as they stretched their first innings score from overnight 56-2 to 203-7 in 71.2 overs before rain forced an early close.

On a day where 47.2 overs were bowled by OGDCL, no.3 batter Mohammad Ammar strengthened WAPDA’s position in the game with a dogged half-century (74, 142b, 10x4s). 

OGDCL kept taking wickets at regular intervals as Sharoon Siraj (31, 98b, 2x4s), Ayaz Tasawar (24, 67b, 1x4, 1x6) and Khalid Usman (24, 69b, 2x4s) couldn’t convert their starts. Spinners Asif Afridi and Jawad Ali shared three wickets each, while pacer Mohammad Amir Khan had one scalp to his name.
