Karachi, 29 December 2023: In the second day’s play of the third round of President’s Trophy 2023-24, Pakistan Television (PTV) were enforced to follow-on while HEC’s Awais Zafar registered his second ton of the tournament. Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) were in the driver’s seat, courtesy of Mubasir Khan’s unbeaten half-century, against SBP at State Bank Stadium.

Ghani Glass vs PTV at National Bank Stadium, Karachi

Pakistan Television (PTV) were asked to follow-on after they were bundled out for 128 in reply to Ghani Glass’ 319. Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Rameez Jnr combined to dismiss eight batters as both of them returned with four wickets each.

Taimur Khan (50, 63b, 6x4s, 2x6s) and Mohammad Suleman (28, 55b, 2x4s) stitched a 75-run sixth-wicket partnership but it was not enough to avoid the follow-on. PTV only managed to add 43 more runs before they ran out of batters.

PTV put up a strong reply the second time round, bringing the deficit down to just eight at the close of play on day two. They lost their opening batters, Nasir Nawaz (24, 35b, 5x4s) and Hasan Nawaz (13, 11b, 3x4s) for a total of 45 runs on the board. Taimur Khan (79 not out, 99b, 13x4s, 1x6) and Mohammad Suleman (65, 118b, 6x4s) then put on an unbeaten 138-run partnership.

Shoaib and Rameez Jnr picked up a wicket each while other Ghani Glass bowlers struggled to get a breakthrough.

KRL vs HEC at UBL Sports Complex, Karachi

Higher Education Commission (HEC) batters shone on day two as they raced to 379-8 in reply to Khan Research Laboratories’ (KRL) mammoth total of 411-7. Awais Zafar (111, 172b, 10x4s, 1x6), who scored his maiden first-class ton in the previous round, once again was among the runs as he struck a magnificent century to help his team challenge the KRL bowlers.

Saad Khan (67, 98b, 10x4s), Ghazi Ghouri (56, 50b, 6x4s) and Adeel Meo (51, 57b, 5x4s, 1x6) struck valuable half-centuries as HEC trailed by 32 by the end of their allotted 80 overs. Arshadullah was the pick of the KRL bowlers as he dismissed four batters. All other bowlers managed to bag one wicket each.

KRL started their second innings with caution as the opening partnership yielded 43 runs. By the time stumps were drawn on day two, they had lost two wickets with 81 runs on the board. KRL will start day three with a crucial lead of 113 and first-innings centurion, Abdul Faseeh (32 not out, 38b, 3x4s, 1x6) on the crease. HEC’s Waseem Akram and Jahanzaib Sultan bagged a wicket each.

SNGPL vs SBP at State Bank Stadium, Karachi

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) avoided their overnight collapse scare as they managed 305-8 in the 80 overs from a precarious position of 48-4 at the start of second day’s play. Skipper Asad Shafiq (77, 140b, 7x4s) and Bilawal Bhatti (54, 113b, 6x4s) played their part in the rebuild as they stitched a 89-run fifth-wicket partnership.
