Imam, Awais, Rohail strike centuries on opening day of last round

Lahore, 23 November 2025: The last round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2025-26 got underway at five venues across Abbottabad, Islamabad, Peshawar and Rawalpindi as Multan’s Imam-ul-Haq, Faisalabad’s Muhammad Awais Zafar and Islamabad’s Rohail Nazir hit centuries, while Karachi Blues’ Muhammad Umar and FATA’s Hayatullah registered five-wicket hauls on Sunday.

Imam-ul-Haq struck his 16th first-class century as Multan finished the opening day against Abbottabad on a strong note with 360-5 on the board in 84 overs against Kamran Ghulam-led Abbottabad.

After opting to bat first, Imam led Multan’s charge with 181 off 232 balls hitting 21 fours and one six. Following a 32-run opening stand with Waqar Hussain (18, 28b, 2x4s), 68-run partnership with Imran Butt (40, 61b, 6x4s), Imam and Sharoon Siraj gathered 193 runs for the third wicket.

Sharoon faced 132 balls for his 83 runs striking nine fours during his outing. Zeeshan Ashraf (30 not out, 40b, 4x4s, 1x6) was unbeaten at stumps and will resume day two with Bismillah Khan. For Abbottabad, Mansoor Ali picked up three wickets, while Adil Naz dismissed two batters.

Muhammad Awais Zafar’s seventh first-class century (148, 177b, 15x4s, 7x6s) and second in the tournament took Faisalabad out of dire straits after they slipped to 23-4 against Bahawalpur at the Marghzar Cricket Ground in Islamabad.

Faisalabad finished the day with 305-9 in 84.1 overs as only three batters entered double figures with opening batter Hasan Raza (53, 132b, 8x4s) and no. 7 Raees Ahmed (53, 91b, 6x4s, 1x6) scoring half-centuries apart from Awais’ heroics with the bat.

Awais and Hasan stitched a 150-run fifth-wicket partnership to push Bahawalpur on backfoot crucially pushing their team’s case for batting bonus points as they look for a berth in the final. Following Hasan’s departure, Awais again got together with Raees to gather 102 runs for the sixth-wicket.

Bahawalpur’s Muhammad Imran returned figures of 3-57, while Mohammad Sudais and Mohammad Azab picked up two wickets each.

At the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar, FATA’s Hayatullah ripped through Lahore Whites’ batting line-up with his career-best 7-78 as they were restricted to 205 all out in 53.4 overs.

After slipping to 70-4, Lahore Whites’ Qasim Akram (54, 67b, 6x4s, 2x6s) and Hussain Talat (30, 52b, 2x4s) put on 83 runs before they lost 6-53. Hayatullah removed both opening batters Mohib Bhatti (28, 61b, 3x4s) and Ali Zaryab (26, 45b, 3x4s) after they had put on 54 runs, before also removing Lahore’s top scorer Qasim.

Aamir Jamal contributed 32 off 31 balls hitting five fours before falling to Hayatullah whose bagged the seven-fer in 20.4 overs.

In turn, FATA finished the day with 86-3 on the board in 23 overs, 119 runs behind Lahore Whites.

Rohail Nazir’s seventh first-class century (113 not out, 159b, 13x4s, 4x6s) took Islamabad to 346-5 in 86 overs at stumps against joint-third placed tournament final contenders Peshawar.

After being asked to bat first, Islamabad got off to a flying start with Shamyl Hussain striking seven fours and five sixes in his 77-ball 76-run outing, while in Abdul Faseeh’s (31, 98b, 5x4s) company, the duo gathered 120 runs.

Rohail then stitched a 149-run stand with no.3 Naseerullah Khan (73, 145b, 12x4s) before Islamabad lost three further wickets before stumps ending the day in a strong position. For Peshawar, Mohammad Irfan picked up two wickets.

Karachi Blues were just 32 runs behind Sialkot as they finished the opening day 144-3 in 33.3 overs at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi in the high-stakes clash of the last round between table toppers.

Shan Masood remained unbeaten 60 off 99 balls hitting six fours and one six after sharing 62-run second-wicket stand with Saad Baig (29, 51b, 4x4s).

Mehran Mumtaz – who earlier struck 70 off 61 balls at no.8 – stood up with the ball too removing Saad and Haroon Arshad as Sialkot looked to make their way back in the contest.

Earlier, Muhammad Umar (5-40) and Kashif Bhatti’s (4-67) onslaught with the ball reduced Sialkot to 76-6 and then 92-7 before Mehran’s eight fours and four sixes-laden knock provided Sialkot some impetus as they went past thr 150-run mark and posted 176 all out.

Umar bagged his second first-class five-wicket haul as he took 13.2 overs to reach to the milestone.
