Jalat Khan picks up a five-fer on the first day of first round of Super-Four stage at the Hanif Mohammad Trophy 2023-24

Lahore, 10 October 2023: The first round of the super-four stage of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy 2023-24 commenced today at two venues; the Multan Cricket Stadium and the Sheikh Khalifa Sports Complex Rahim Yar Khan. Quetta, who topped the table for group one, are playing Hyderabad who were second on the table for group two. While Abbottabad, who came on top for group two, are facing Islamabad who were second on the table for group one.

Islamabad v Abbottabad at Multan Cricket Stadium:

Abbottabad won the toss and elected to bat first at the Multan Cricket Stadium. The decision backfired as the side was bowled out in 32.5 overs after scoring just 101 runs. Ahmed Khan (20, 33b, 3x4s) was the top-scorer for the side. Islamabad’s bowling displayed a solid collective effort. Haris Hassan, Farmanullah Khan and Mohammad Nadeem got two wickets each while Azan Tariq returned with four wickets.

In return, Islamabad claimed a lead with their batting. They scored 156 runs in 55 overs while losing five wickets. Ali Imran (47, 93b, 6x4s, 1x6) and Azan Tariq (39, 97b, 6x4s) produced vital knocks. Set batter Sarmad Bhatti (38 not out, 79b, 5x4s) was at the crease when stumps were drawn.

Yasir Shah and Khalid Usman picked two wickets each while Adil Naz and Mehroz Rasheed had a wicket apiece.

Quetta v Hyderabad at Sheikh Khalifa Sports Complex, Rahim Yar Khan:

After winning the toss at Sheikh Khalifa Sports Complex, Quetta invited Hyderabad to bat first. On the back of a half-century by Daniyal Hussain Rajput (53, 102b, 9x4s), the side got to 200 runs after batting for 78.1 overs. Ali Ahsan, who scored 31 from 45 balls including three boundaries, was the second highest contributor with the bat. Jalat Khan returned with six wickets, shining as the pick of the bowlers for Quetta.

Quetta, in response, scored 30 runs and lost two wickets in the 10.2 overs they batted for. Majid Asghar and Asad Malik had a wicket each. Hazrat Wali (14 not out, 31b, 2x4s) was the highest scorer for Quetta at the close of play.
