Karachi, 5 January 2026: The second round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I concluded with Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) staging a memorable comeback against Sahir Associates, while State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) beat Ghani Glass comprehensively on Monday as action took place across four venues in Karachi.
Defending champions Pakistan Television (PTV) fell short against Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) as Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) put Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) under the hammer.
The third round of first-class four-day event will begin on Friday, 9 January at NBP, SBP, UBL Sports Complexes and National Bank Stadium in Karachi.
KRL sealed a thrilling six-run win over Sahir Associates – their first in the tournament - at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi. Chasing 228 to win, Sahir agonisingly fell six runs short with KRL’s Mohammad Hamza picking up his fourth first-class five-for returning figures of 16-3-72-6.
Sahir Associates were cruising at 142-4 in 41.4 overs having recovered from 21-4 the previous day and they required another 86 runs to win with Mohammad Faiq (70, 116b, 9x4s) and Asim Ali Nasir (65, 122b, 8x4s) well set on the crease.
Pacer Ahmed Bashir provided KRL the game-changing breakthrough on the fifth ball of 42nd over as he castled Faiq paving the way for a six for 79-run collapse in a space of 15.1 overs.
Player of the match Hamza and Arshad Iqbal then shared the remaining wickets winning the game for their team despite no.7 Mohammad Afzal’s run-a-ball 43 comprising five fours and his 47-run stand with Mohammad Hasnain (17, 20b, 1x4s, 1x6). Sahir imploded from 219-6 in 55 overs with just nine runs more required to win.
Arshad finished with eight wickets in the match including a 5-24 and 3-62 across the both innings, while Hamza also finished with as many wickets having taken 2-50 in the first innings.
OGDCL also bagged their first win in the tournament as they chased the 112-run target in 21.5 overs set by PTV at the UBL Sports Complex.
First innings centurion and player of the match Haroon Arshad remained unbeaten for 40 off 45 balls hitting six fours in the chase, while also partnering with Rohail Nazir for an unbeaten 53 after OGDCL had lost Israrullah for seven and Umar Siddiq for 40 off 52 balls inclusive of three fours and one six.
Earlier, PTV folded for 214 all out in 54.5 overs after conceding a 103-run first innings deficit as OGDCL pacer Muhammad Umar returned eight wickets in the match taking 4-54 and 4-57 across the two digs.
Seven of PTV batters got starts crossing the 20-run mark but none of them crossed 34 with Mohammad Taha being the only recognized batter with single-digit return. Apart from Umar, Muhammad Imran snapped three wickets, while Mushtaq Ahmed dismissed two batters.
SBP skittled Ghani Glass for a mere 133 in 32.3 overs with the help of Kashif Bhatti’s 28th five-wicket haul (9.3-1-20-5) bagging a massive 202-run win - their first in the tournament – at the NBP Sports Complex.
Only Sharjeel Khan (59, 71b, 10x4s, 1x6), Saad Nasim (22, 33b, 1x4, 1x6) and Mohammad Rameez Jnr (11, 18b, 1x6) entered double figures as Ghani Glass lost 70-5 and the other five wickets for 63 runs. Player of the match Mohammad Abbas took his tally of match wickets to nine with 3-23 in nine overs in the second innings.
Earlier, SBP resumed their second innings from overnight score of 194-3 and were bowled out for 307 in 75.1 overs as overnight centurion Mohammad Ghazi Ghori departed for 138 off 139 balls hitting 22 fours and his fellow batter Rameez Aziz falling for 82 off 178 balls (9x4s).
Ghani Glass’ Mir Hamza bagged his 31st first-class five-wicket haul returning analysis of 23-7-63-5 and also completed 500 wickets in the format.
WAPDA outclassed SNGPL to go top of the table with 47 points as they chased the meagre 55-run target in 13.4 overs with eight wickets in hand at the State Bank Stadium. Pacer Mohammad Salman picked up the two wickets for SNGPL.
Earlier, SNGPL managed only 183 in 66 overs in their second innings after conceding a 129-run first innings deficit. Resuming the day three from 33-1 in 17 overs, SNGPL lost wickets at regular intervals with opening batter Azan Awais top-scoring with a 131-ball 70 inclusive of six fours.
No.7 batter Muhammad Awais Zafar tried to salvage the innings for his team after walking in to bat at 129-5 but in vain as he found no partners, departing for a patient 78-ball 46 with the help of seven fours and one six. For WAPDA, Naqeebullah led the way with four for 47 in 21 overs, while Aqib Khan and Mohammad Adil dismissed two batters each.
