Quaid-e-Azam Trophy three-day tournament, Muhammad Akhlaq's 176 strengthens Central Punjab's position

Karachi, 21 November 2020: Central Punjab’s Muhammad Akhlaq scored 176 punctuated with 14 sixes to guide his side to a strong position on day-two of the sixth-round match of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy three-day tournament for Second XIs against Sindh being played at the TMC Ground, Karachi on Saturday.

The match between Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is evenly poised as Balochistan ended day-two 189 runs ahead with one second innings wicket intact.  

Northern vs Southern Punjab, KCCA Stadium, Karachi:

Resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 24 for no loss, Northern were bowled out for 160 in 61.1 overs which gave Southern Punjab a 165-run first innings lead. Taimur Sultan top-scored with 44 runs. Ali Usman took four while Muhammad Irfan took three wickets.

After being forced to follow-on, Northern ended day-two at 67 for two in their 39 overs, Taimur was batting on 29 when stumps were drawn for the day.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa vs Balochistan, State Bank Stadium, Karachi:

Resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 34 for no loss, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lost their way and were sent packing for 135 in 45.2 overs, conceding a 90-run lead.

Balochistan fast bowlers Gohar Faiz (5 for 27) and Akhtar Shah (3-63) shared eight wickets between them. Left-arm-spinner Mohammad Junaid took two wickets.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa then reduced Balochistan to 99 for nine in their second innings at close of play. Nasir Khan and Taimoor Khan contributed 25 runs each; Asif Afridi took four while Abbas Afridi took two wickets.

Balochistan are 189 runs ahead and have one second innings wicket intact.

Sindh vs Central Punjab, TMC Ground, Karachi:

Resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 122 for no loss, Central Punjab finished their 83 overs at 349 for seven. Opener Muhammad Akhlaq led the way for his side with a 176-run knock off 217 balls. Akhlaq’s stroke-filled innings included as many as 14 sixes and seven fours. His opening partner Muhammad Imran Dogar scored 74 off 104 balls (six fours, three sixes).

The two added 190 runs for the first-wicket. Muhammad Asghar and Hassan Khan took three wickets apiece.

After conceding a 174-run lead, Sindh ended day-two at 124 for two in their second innings.
