Quetta's Abdul Wahid Bangalzai and Bahawalpur's Mohammad Ammar register centuries

Lahore, 28 September 2023: Round four of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy had an eventful first day’s play, with Quetta and Bahawalpur getting ahead in their respective games owing to centuries produced by Abdul Wahid Bangalzai (Quetta) and Mohammad Ammar (Bahawalpur). Abbottabad bowlers had a good day as they bowled out the opposition for 188 runs.. AJK’s Naveed Malik ended the day unbeaten on 99.

AJK v Sialkot at Muzaffarabad Cricket Ground

AJK won the toss and elected to bat first. After they got off to a shaky start, Nadeem Khalil steadied the ship with a half-century (52, 109b, 7x4s). His efforts were complemented by Naveed Malik (99*, 199b, 13x4s, 1x6) who remained unbeaten at the crease when stumps were called.

Mohammad Farhan and Shoaib Akhtar were the pick of the bowler, getting three and two wickets, respectively.

At stumps, AJK were 284 for six.

Islamabad v Quetta at Mirpur Cricket Stadium

Quetta were invited to bat first by Islamabad after the latter won the toss. Abdul Wahid Bangalzai, who came to bat after the first wicket fell, gave his side a solid start. His magnificent century (157, 247b, 10x4s, 5x6s) helped the side get into a comfortable position. His efforts were complemented by Abdul Hanan Achakzai, who got a half-century (59, 108b, 5x4s).

Haris Hassan and Mohammad Moeez Khan grabbed two wickets each for Islamabad. Quetta ended the day at 318 after losing five wickets.

Abbottabad v DM Jamali at Multan Cricket Stadium 

Abbottabad chose to field first after winning the toss. DM Jamali could not steady themselves at the start of the innings, losing six wickets periodically. Mohammad Deen, who scored 46, (84b, 5x4s) was the highest scorer of the side.

They were bundled for 188 runs, on the back of incredible bowling performances by Khalid Usman (four wickets) and Israr Hussain (three wickets).

Abbottabad lost two wickets and accumulated 45 runs only before stumps were called.

Bahawalpur v Hyderabad at Sheikh Khalifa Sports Complex Rahim Yar Khan

Bahawalpur won the toss and chose to bat first. After the top three could not get going, a partnership of 158 runs between Mohammad Ammar and Mohammad Umair steadied the innings for Bahawalpur. The former scored an unbeaten century while the latter got a half-century (78, 147b, 8x4s).

For Hyderabad, Majid Asghar returned with two wickets at the expense of 44 runs. At the end of the day, Ammar, who stood at 132 not out, was joined at the crease by Faizan Zafar, who returned undefeated on 42. The Bahawalpur scorecard read 313 for four.
