Karachi, 3 January 2026: The second round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I 2025-26 began at the four venues in Karachi as all four toss-winning teams opted to bowl first on Saturday morning.
State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) Abdullah Fazal was the lone centurion on day one as he faced 176 balls for his 113 hitting 15 fours against Ghani Glass at the NBP Sports Complex, while none of the SBP batters crossed the 21-run mark.
SBP were bowled out for 202 in 58 overs as Ghani Glass’ pace trio of Afaq Afridi (4-85), Ubaid Shah (3-45) and Mir Hamza (2-24) bagged nine wickets combined.
Abdullah, who registered his third first-class century, walked in to bat in the second over of SBP’s innings and departed in the 57th over with scorecard reading 195-9. The next best scorers for SBP were Qasim Akram (21, 38b, 4x4s) and Hasan Raza (17, 39b, 4x4s).
In reply, Ghani Glass were left reeling at 31-3 in 20 overs courtesy Mohammad Abbas’ disciplined returns of 10-5-8-2, while Kashif Ali picked up one wicket. Ali Razzaq was retired hurt after scoring six off 44 balls, while Tayyab Tahir was unbeaten on the crease with 19 off 60 balls comprising two fours.
Water and Power Development Authority’s (WAPDA) pacer Aqib Khan picked up his fourth first-class five-for returning impressive figures of 21-8-39-5 as Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) were skittled for 147 in 60.3 overs at the State Bank Stadium.
Aqib Khan was backed up by Naqeebullah and Mohammad Adil who dismissed two batters each.
SNGPL slipped to 35-3 in 16.1 overs, when Omair Bin Yousuf (45, 130b, 8x4s) and Saad Khan (21, 28b, 3x4s) put on 37 runs. SNGPL lost seven for 75 after Saad was castled by Sharoon Siraj’s off-spin in the 25th over. No.8 batter Bilawal Bhatti chipped in with 19 off 35 balls hitting two fours and one six.
In turn, WAPDA finished the day 63-1 in 16 overs with Imran Dogar (33 not out, 47b, 6x4s) and Muhammad Ammar (24 not out, 36b, 4x4s) unbeaten on the crease having forged a 55-run stand after Muhammad Akhlaq’s early departure courtesy Shahnawaz Dahani.
At the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) managed 204 all out in 54.2 overs as Sahir Associates’ Mohammad Mohsin Khan, Bilawal and Mohmmad Hasnain picked up two wickets each.
For KRL, who slipped to 122-5 in 30 overs, Saad Baig top-scored with 64 off 83 balls hitting 11 fours, while no.7 batter Hamza Nazar was run out four runs short of his half-century (46, 54b, 7x4s, 1x6) as wickets tumbled at regular intervals. Skipper Sarmad Bhatti and Imran Rafiq scored 21 runs each.
In turn, pacer Arshad Iqbal delivered a brilliant spell of eight overs eking out three for 15 including three maidens as Sahir Associates closed the day with 46-4 in 16 overs, trailing by 158 runs.
Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) were 73-1 in 21 overs as stumps in reply to Pakistan Television’s (PTV) 199 all out in 57.1 overs at the UBL Sports Complex. OGDCL’s Israrullah was unbeaten on 47 off 61 balls with the help of eight fours after losing Sameer Saqib (10, 60b, 2x4s) following a 62-run opening stand.
Pacers led the way for OGDCL with Muhammad Umar returning figures of 17.1-3-54-4, while Muhammad Imran picked up three wickets. Mushtaq Ahmed dismissed two batters.
Earlier, PTV slumped to 22-3 before Mohammad Taha (63, 116b, 9x4s, 1x6) and Mohammad Suleman (23, 47b, 2x4s) stitched a 52-run stand in their bid to re-build the innings.
Following Suleman’s departure in the 26th over, PTV lost six wickets for 125 runs with Arafat Minhas (33, 35b, 6x4s), Musa Khan (20, 25b, 2x4s) and Mehran Sanwal (16, 15b, 2x6s) chipping in with valuable contributions lower down the order.
