Shaheen takes four, Bangladesh 233 all-out

Rawalpindi, 7 February 2020: Pakistan bowlers, led by Shaheen Afridi, bowled out Bangladesh for 233 on day one of the first Test at Pindi Cricket Stadium on Friday.

The visitors were rolled out in 82.5 overs as Shaheen, the 19-year-old left-arm quick, returned four for 53.

Pakistan captain Azhar Ali’s decision to bowl first paid dividends as Shaheen struck on the third ball of the match to send debutant Saif Hassan (0) back to the pavilion.

On the fourth ball of the second over, Mohammad Abbas trapped Tamim Iqbal LBW as Bangladesh were left tottering at three for two.

A 59-run stand for the third-wicket between Najmul Hossain Shanto (44) and Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque (30) gathered the tourists innings before Abbas struck again at the verge of the Lunch break.

Bangladesh took lunch with the scorecard reading 95 for three with Mominul back in the pavilion.

Mohammad Mithun, who top-scored with 63 with seven fours and a six, anchored his side’s innings for the latter part of the day knitting partnerships worth 54 and 53 with Liton Das (33) and Taijul Islam (24), both dismissed by part-time left-arm orthodox Haris Sohail.

Mithun’s stay at the crease was curtailed by Naseem Shah, the 16-year-old pacer, who returned one for 61.

The umpires called stumps with the fall of last Bangladesh wicket as light faded at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.
