Doha, 23 November 2025: Pakistan Shaheens emerged the champions of the Men’s Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 after they beat Bangladesh A in an engrossing contest involving a Super Over after both the teams scored 125 runs each in their stipulated 20 overs here at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium, Doha on Sunday night.
It is Pakistan’s third title in the Asian Cricket Council’s development event for ‘A’ teams, as Muhammad Irfan Khan joined Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Haris in the list of victorious skippers. Shaheens also remained unbeaten in the tournament beating Oman, India ‘A’, UAE and Sri Lanka ‘A’ on their way to the final.
Shaheens required seven runs to win the Super Over, which they completed off the first four balls as Saad Masood hit the third one for four towards deep backward square leg off Ripon Mondol apart from two singles and one leg-bye.
Bangladesh ‘A’ just faced three balls batting first in the tie-breaker as Ahmed Daniyal took a wicket on either side of a five-run wide that went past wicket-keeper Muhammad Ghazi Ghori. Habibur Rahman had taken a single off the first ball.
Earlier, Bangladesh ‘A’ faltered in its pursuit of the 125-run target slipping to 53-7 in 10.3 overs before a 37-run eighth-wicket stand between no.6 SM Meherob (19, 21b, 1x4, 1x6) and no.9 Rakibul Hasan (24, 21b, 3x4s, 1x6) took them to 90-8.
With Rakibul falling to player of the match Daniyal in the 18th over, Bangladesh ‘A’ required 30 runs off 16 balls, when the last duo of Abdul Gaffar Saqlain (16 not out, 12b, 2x6s) and Mondol (11 not out, 9b, 1x6) got together.
Saqlain and Mondol took 20 runs off the penultimate over including three sixes against Shahid Aziz leaving Daniyal to defend seven in the last over. After giving a double and two singles on the first three balls, Daniyal bowled a dot ball, with the equation down to three off two.
The Bangladesh ‘A’ duo ran two leg-byes on the last two balls to send the game into one-over eliminator.
Pakistan’s spinners Sufyan Moqim (3-11), Arafat Minhas (2-5), Maaz Sadaqat (1-7) and Saad Masood (1-33) broke open the game after Bangladesh ‘A’ got off to a rapid start taking 22 off first 2.3 overs.
Arafat and Saad removed the top three, after which Sufyan and Maaz ripped apart the middle order especially with the left-arm wrist-spinner taking two wickets in the 11th over pushing Bangladesh ‘A’ to the brink. Daniyal’s figures read 4-0-11-2.
Pakistan Shaheens couldn’t pick up momentum earlier after they were put in to bat first as they slided to 25-3 before player of the tournament Maaz Sadaqat also departed for an 18-ball 23 hitting two fours and one six.
No.5 Arafat stuck around for 25 runs, which he scored off 23 balls hitting four fours before departing with 64 runs on the board, bringing top-scorer Saad to the middle.
The leg-spinning all-rounder – Saad - crucially gathered 41 runs for the seventh-wicket with Shahid Aziz (9, 10b, 1x4) before the duo fell in the 19th over.
Saad struck three fours and as many sixes in his game-changing 26-ball 38 as Pakistan posted a fighting 125 all out, which also included a 20th over boundary off the bat off Sufyan (4 not out, 5b, 1x4).
