Karachi, 23 January 2026: The third day of the fifth round of President’s Trophy saw plenty of action across the four venues, notably Ghani Glass falling flat against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines (SNGPL), but then responding well towards the end of the day.

Khan Research Laboratories’ (KRL) Hamza Nazar and Imran Rafiq put on a double-century partnership against Pakistan Television (PTV) in a brilliant act of defiance and attack.

Ghani Glass were made to follow-on by SNGPL at the National Bank Stadium as pacer Shehzad Gul registered his best first-class figures in an innings, bagging seven for 51. SNGPL skittled Ghani Glass for 201 as they lost eight for 90, conceding a 251-run deficit.

Shehzad, who also completed 50 wickets in the red-ball format, continued his fine form with fourth five-for in five innings across last three first-class games while also taking his tally of scalps to 27 in the tournament.

Ghani Glass were sailing at 111-2 after resuming from overnight score of 37-2 before the slump set in as they slipped to 164-5 and then 201 all out.

They lost Tayyab Tahir for 55 off 130 balls including five fours, while no.7 batter Saad Nasim chipped in with a 55-ball 47 but in vain. No.5 batter Hammad Butt stuck around for 62 balls, scoring 33 runs with the help of four fours, while opener Kashif Ali (27, 53b, 5x4s) was the only other Ghani Glass batter to cross the 20-run mark.

Shahnawaz Dahani backed up Shehzad’s figures of 16.5-3-51-7, with three for 73 in 18 overs.

In reply, Ghani Glass responded well as they reached the close of play on day three with 125 runs on the board for the loss of a solitary wicket in 29 overs, further trailing by another 126 runs. Opening batter Khawaja Arham led from front with a fluent 81 not out off 108 balls striking 10 fours and two sixes.

Dahani struck early to scare Ghani Glass, who promoted no.3 batter Yahya Abdul Rehman to open but he fell for a four-ball duck. Hammad, promoted from no.5 to 3, then put on a 119-run unbeaten stand with Arham holding one end tight with a 63-ball 35 not out with the help of four fours.

KRL resumed the day three from overnight score of 88-4 in 26.1 overs and were bowled out for 434 in 108.5 overs, gaining a slim 20-run first innings lead over PTV at the UBL Sports Complex.

After KRL slipped to 126-5, Imran Rafiq and Hamza Nazar came together to put on a mammoth 207-run stand to deny PTV any chance of a first innings lead. Imran struck his seventh first-class century accumulating 170 off 245 balls hitting 27 fours and one six.

Hamza peeled off his maiden first-class century in style as he remained unbeaten for 175 off 202 balls with the highlight being his 10 sixes along with 14 fours in the 316-minute outing.

For PTV, Ali Usman picked up his 11th first-class five-for returning figures of 37.5-8. 117-5, while Amad Butt took two wickets.

In turn, PTV copped three losses in just 7.1 overs with opening duo Shamyl Hussain and Waqar Hussain falling for 17 and five, respectively. Night watcher Ali Usman fell for a nine-ball duck as KRL’s Mohammad Hamza picked up three for five in his four overs.

State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) managed a 60-run first innings lead over Sahir Associates and then picked up three wickets for 44 runs in the second innings when the stumps were drawn at the SBP Sports Complex.

Mohammad Abbas’ frugal figures of 9-5-9-2 meant Sahir’s top three batters struggled to get off the blocks as Mohammad Faiq fought to the end with 18 not out off 34 balls hitting two fours.

Earlier, Sahir Associates’ pacer Razaullah returned figures of 23-4-88-5 following his 5-37 against OGDCL in previous round, as SBP were bowled out for 300 in 94 overs after they resumed the day from 73-1 in 39 overs. Half-centuries from opening batter Abdullah Fazal (76, 158b, 10x4s) and Muhammad Ghazi Ghori (67, 74b, 10x4s) ensured SBP gained the first innings lead.

Abdullah and Huraira (32, 78b, 7x4s) stitched an 80-run stand. Ali Shan (30, 69b, 3x4s) and Rameez Aziz (31, 60b, 3x4s) got starts but couldn’t convert them.

Only 47.1 overs of play was possible at the KCCA Stadium as Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) struggled against Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) as they closed the day with 117-6 in 45 in their second innings managing a meagre 69-run lead.

WAPDA began their first innings from overnight score of 203-7 in 71.2 overs and were dismissed for 207 in 73.3 overs as they gained a 48-run first innings lead. KRL’s Asif Afridi registered his 19th first-class five-for as he picked up five for five for 66 in 31.3 overs, while leg-spinner Ali Jawad dismissed four batters.

In turn, left-arm spinner Mohammad Asghar took 4-35 in 18 overs to leave OGDCL in trouble. Following Haroon Arshad (37, 84b, 4x4s) and Sameer Saqib’s (25, 56b, 5x4s) 46-run stand for the second wicket, OGDCL lost five for 63.

Danish Aziz was unbeaten on 18 off 47 balls, while Jawad Ali faced 19 balls for no run as stumps were drawn.
