Karachi, 24 January 2026: The fifth round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I concluded with Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) winning their matches, while the game between Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) ended in draw as action unfolded on Saturday across four venues in Karachi.

The sixth round of the tournament will begin on Tuesday, 27 January with all eight teams in action.

On the points table, WAPDA (93), SNGPL (91) and KRL (90) are the top three with slim difference of points, making the next two rounds vital in terms of qualification for the final. PTV are placed fourth with 77 points. All four teams have won three games each.

At the National Bank Stadium, SNGPL romped to a thumping 10-wicket victory over Ghani Glass as they chased the 39-run target in 8.5 overs.

Earlier, Ghani Glass resumed their second innings from overnight score of 125-1 following-on and with 126 more runs left to surmount before setting a target.

Ghani Glass’ opening batter Khawaja Arham struck his maiden first-class century scoring 141 off 160 balls inclusive of 18 fours and three sixes in the follow-on effort. Arham and Hammad Butt’s (77, 156b, 8x4s) stand for the second wicket ended for 196 after which Ghani Glass’ batting crumbled.

In a spectacular collapse Ghani lost nine for 87 as they went from 202-1 to 289 all out following-on. They earlier had incurred a 251-run first innings deficit replying to SNGPL’s 452.

Sajid Khan and Mohammad Ali picked up three wickets each, while Shahnawaz Dahani and Shehzad Gul dismissed two batters each. Shehzad was named player of the match for his nine wickets in the game.

SBP got over the line against Sahir Associates by nine wickets, chasing the 63-run target in 13.5 overs as Mohammad Huraira (25 not out, 28b, 5x4s) and Abdullah Fazal (24 not out, 44b, 4x4s) shared a 45-run unbeaten stand.

Sahir Associates began the day from overnight second innings score of 44-3 in 18 overs but then slumped to 122 all out in 41.5 overs with SBP’s Mohammad Abbas taking his 55th first-class five-wicket haul. He returned figures of 21-6-38-5.

SBP’s first innings lead of 60 made sure they chased a meagre 63-run target to bag their second win in the tournament.

At the UBL Sports Complex, KRL also bagged a nine-wicket win over PTV as they hunted the 75 runs required in 17.1 overs. Saad Baig remained unbeaten for 40 off 53 balls hitting three fours and two sixes. He also stitched a 54-run opening stand with Shahzaib Khan (27, 42b, 3x4s, 1x6).

KRL’s left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Hamza wreaked havoc with the ball taking 14-4-39-7, still not good enough to beat his 7-20 in an innings, to bundle out PTV for 94 in 27.1 overs. The defending champions had resumed the day from 27-3 in 7.1 overs and an overnight lead of seven after their first innings total of 414 was matched by KRL with 434.

WAPDA and OGDCL played out a draw after the former were set a 220-run target and had reached 88-3 in 24 overs, when the time ran out. Earlier, OGDCL’s Danish Aziz starred with 101 not out in their second innings score of 267-8 declared in 104 overs.

OGDCL had conceded a 48-run first innings deficit and were 117-6 in 45 overs at close of play on day three.

With just a 69-run second innings lead in hand and four wickets in the bag, OGDCL began the day four with a possible defeat in sight but Danish then struck his fourth-class century (101 not out, 232b, 7x4s) to back up his first innings score of 69 in a total of 159.

Danish was helped by Jawad Ali, who ate up 138 balls for his 18 after coming in at 110-6, while Asif Afridi also chipped in with a 43-ball 14. For WAPDA, Mohammad Asghar picked up four for 79.
