Tayyab Tahir's 169 guides Southern Punjab to two-wicket win

Lahore, 13 March 2022: Century by Tayyab Tahir led Southern Punjab to a two-wicket win over Central Punjab in the sixth round match of Pakistan Cup, here on Sunday. Meanwhile, five wickets apiece from Danish Aziz and Sohail Khan led Sindh to an emphatic nine-wicket win over Balochistan. In the third match of the round, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa beat Northern by 29 runs.

At the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, chasing 367 to win, Southern Punjab achieved the target in the last ball of the match for the loss of eight wickets. Right-handed opening batter Tayyab top-scored with a 140-ball 169, which included 15 fours and five sixes. He was supported by captain Salman Ali Agha (74 off 57, nine fours, one six) and Azam Khan (33 off 33, five fours).

For Central Punjab, Hussain Talat and Usman Qadir bagged three wickets apiece.

Earlier, after being asked to bat first, centuries from Ahmed Shehzad and Rizwan Hussain helped Central Punjab post 366 for seven in 50 overs. Ahmed struck 20 fours and five sixes during his 127-ball 158 innings. His opening partner Rizwan scored 100 off 104, smashing seven fours and five sixes. The pair knitted 243 runs for the first wicket.

For Southern Punjab, Salman and Khushdil Shah picked two wickets each.

At the Multan Cricket Stadium, after being put into bat, Balochistan were bowled out for 126 in the 34th over. Right-arm fast Sohail took five wickets for 21 from 7.1 overs, while spinner Danish also ended-up taking five wickets for 10 runs from five overs.

In reply, Sindh achieved the target in the 19th over for the loss of one wicket. Sharjeel Khan and Khurram Manzoor returned undefeated on 56 and 53, respectively. The pair added 112 runs for the second wicket. The left-handed Sharjeel innings included six fours and three sixes. Khurram struck six fours and two sixes during his 49-ball innings.

At the House of Northern, Kamran Ghulam’s century led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to a 29-run win over Northern. Batting first, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa scored 279 for nine in their allotted 50 overs. Kamran, batting at number three scored a 100-ball 118, hitting seven fours and six sixes. The left-handed Fakhar Zaman was other contributor with the bat, scoring 31 off 74, hitting two fours.

For Northern, Aamir Jamal, Imad Wasim and Salman Irshad bagged two wickets apiece.

In turn, half-centuries from Imad Wasim (53, 71b, six fours), Asif Ali (50,63b, four fours, one six) and Nasir Nawaz (50,59b, five fours, two sixes) went in vain as Northern were dismissed for 250 in the 48th over.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Asif Afridi and Khalid Usman grabbed three wickets apiece.
