Pakistan women train hard ahead of Ireland series

Lahore, 29 October 2022: Pakistan women’s ODI and T20I squads after a day rest had an extensive training session at the National High Performance Centre today. Both squads are undergoing a five-day pre-series camp for the six limited-overs match series against Ireland.

Ireland are due to arrive in Lahore on Sunday for three ODIs and three T20Is to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore from 4 November. Three ODIs are part of the ICC Women’s Championship.

During today’s two and a half-hour session, the players had undergone fitness, fielding and net sessions.\

Fielding coach Mauhtashim Rashid reflecting on today’s fielding drills said, “We worked on players’ feet movement today. The better they use their feet, the better the results they will gain on the field during a match.

“The players gave great results on the field in the recently concluded ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup and I am expecting them to take this forward and further improve their fielding skills in the series against Ireland.”

Omaima Sohail has represented Pakistan in 70 international matches. In the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup, she featured in seven matches and took five catches – highest amongst the ground fielders.

Recalling today’s fielding session, Omaima said, “We worked on different aspects of fielding today. In a one-on-one session, I worked with the fielding coach on the slip catching.”

The squads will feature in a 50-over intra-squad match tomorrow at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
