PTV and KRL to compete for President's Cup trophy on Thursday

Karachi, 24 December 2025: Shamyl Hussain’s PTV will take on Iftikhar Ahmed’s KRL in the final of the President’s Cup One-Day tournament on Thursday, 25 December at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi. The List-A match will be live-streamed on Tapmad, with the first ball scheduled to be bowled at 2pm, while the toss will take place at 1.30pm.

The finalists will also contest the winner’s prize money of PKR 5 million, while the runners-up will receive PKR 2.5 million. In addition, awards for the best batter, best bowler, best wicket-keeper and player of the tournament will carry a cash prize of PKR 100,000 each.

The eight-team tournament, which began on 8 December, saw OGDCL, KRL, SNGPL and PTV qualify for the semi-finals held on 22 and 23 December. In the first semi-final, PTV defeated OGDCL by 84 runs, courtesy of a half-century by Jahandad Khan. In the second semi-final, half-centuries by Waqar Ahmed and Saad Baig, along with a five-wicket haul from Arshad Iqbal guided KRL to a 13-run victory.

Both finalists had earlier faced each other in the 17th fixture of the tournament on 16 December at the Naya Nazimabad Ground in Karachi, where KRL defeated PTV by 71 runs. Captain Iftikhar Ahmed, Saad Baig and Shahzaib Khan all contributed half-centuries, while right-arm pacer Arshad Iqbal claimed four wickets.

In the batting department, KRL’s 20-year-old Shahzaib Khan has scored 432 runs from eight matches, including one century and four half-centuries. For PTV, captain Shamyl has led from the front, amassing 402 runs from eight outings, which include two centuries and as many half-centuries.

In the bowling department, KRL’s Sufyan Moqim is leading the wicket-taking charts with 17 wickets from eight matches, with his best figures of four for 14. Arshad is third on the list with 15 wickets from seven matches, including one five-wicket haul and two four-wicket hauls. For PTV, left-arm spinner Ali Usman has claimed 14 wickets from eight matches, including one four-wicket haul.

Looking ahead to the big game, PTV’s captain Shamyl Hussain said:

“The team has performed consistently throughout the tournament. The win in the semi-final gave us confidence and we are ready to put up a strong performance in the final.”

KRL’s captain Iftikhar Ahmed on the eve of the final said:

“The players have played quality cricket from the group stage to the semi-final. The way the team handled pressure in the semi-final was pleasing and we are looking forward to the final.”
