Two-day Foundational Biomechanics course concludes on Friday

Lahore, 6 December 2025: Ten Test cricketers were among the 26 participants who attended the two-day First-ever Foundational Biomechanics Course at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The course saw instructors Dr Mian Muhammad Awais, Dr Imran Abbas, Shahid Aslam and other NCA coaches providing participants with insights into the fundamentals of biomechanics and its application in cricket coaching.

At the end of the course, talking to PCB Digital, Dr Imran Abbas said:

“Biomechanics is essentially the science of movement and every cricket skill is rooted in it. Through this course, our aim was to help coaches understand how to analyse cricket-specific movements so they can enhance the performance of young cricketers, especially fast bowlers, and reduce their risk of injury.

“The feedback from participants has been very encouraging. This was a foundational-level programme and our next step will be to introduce advanced courses focusing on performance enhancement.”

Test cricketer Imran Farhat, who also served as head coach of Pakistan Shaheens during their recent tour of England, said:

“It was an outstanding experience. This course helped us understand several crucial aspects of coaching, especially the process of analysing a player from toe to head. We learned how mechanics develop and how they influence a player's technique.”

Abdur Rehman, former Test left-arm spinner and spin bowling coach of the Pakistan Test side in the recent home series against South Africa, said:

“One of the most valuable aspects of this course was gaining awareness of things we often overlook during our playing careers. Over the past two days, I learned how biomechanics can help us identify injury risks early, particularly in bowling where faulty angles can lead to fatigue or long-term issues, especially in four-day and Test cricket.”

Umaid Asif, who served as bowling coach during Pakistan Shaheens’ recent successful campaign at the ACC Rising Stars Asia Cup, said:

“I strongly believe that learning should never stop – for a player, a coach or any individual. The knowledge we gained will help us enhance players’ performance and protect them from injuries, ultimately extending their careers.

“The primary objective of this course was to help us understand the foundational reasons behind these issues so we can address them effectively and support players in reaching their full potential.”
