Central Punjab Blues and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Whites remain undefeated in National U19 Cup

Lahore, 4 July 2022: Central Punjab U19 Blues and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Blues continue to dominate their respective Pools after the conclusion of fourth-round matches of the National U19 Cup here on Monday. Both sides still remain unbeaten in the tournament and are on the top of the leaderboard in their groups.

Pool A fixtures:

At the Rawal Cricket Ground in Rawalpindi, Central Punjab U19 Blues spinners Ali Asfand and Arham Nawab bundled out Southern Punjab U19 Blues for 83 in chase of 237. Southern Punjab U19 Blues were never insight of the target, as left-arm spinner Ali Asfand and right-arm off-spinner Arham Nawab shared eight wickets between them, taking four wickets apiece.

Earlier, batting first, Central Punjab U19 Blues were bowled out for 236 in the 50th over. Obaid Shahid batting at number three scored a 117-ball 90, which included nine fours and one six. Mohammad Muaz chipped in with 39 off 70 balls. Ali down the order scored a quick-fire 34 off 33 balls, and struck two fours.

Southern Punjab U19 Blues’ Mohammad Shan picked four wickets for 48 from his 10 overs. Bilal Ahmed, Huzaifa Ayub and Kashif Fareed picked two wickets each.

In another group match, captain’s innings from Shamyl Hussain led Northern U19 Blues to a comfortable 119-run win over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Blues at the National Ground in Islamabad. Batting first opening batter Shamyl struck 13 boundaries during his 122-ball 98. The left-handed batter was equally supported by his opening partner Ali Abbas (46, 89b, two fours, one six) as the pair added 156 runs for the first wicket. Northern Blues finished on 271 for nine from their allotted 50 overs.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Blues’ Khubaib Khalil gave away 49 runs for two wickets from seven overs.

In reply, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Blues were bowled out for 152 in the 36th over. Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Zulkifal top-scored with 61 off 79 balls, hitting seven fours and one six.

For Northern U19 Blues, Amir Hasan bagged four wickets for 24. Abidullah picked three wickets for 34, while Mohammad Ibrahim took two wickets for 27 runs.

At Ayub Park Cricket Ground in Rawalpindi, Habibullah’s century led his side Sindh U19 Blues to a five-wicket win over Balochistan U19 Blues. Chasing 281 to win, Sindh U19 openers Habibullah and Saad Baig provided their side a solid 129-run partnership for the first wicket. Habibullah top-scored with 108 off 106 balls, which included 10 fours and four sixes. Saad scored a quick-fire 70 off just 47 balls, hitting 12 fours and one six. Ali Hassan’s unbeaten knock of 41 from 42 balls included two fours and as many sixes helped his side achieved the target in the 42nd over.

Earlier, after opting to bat first, Balochistan scored 280 for seven from 50 overs on the back of an unbeaten century by Ikramullah Khan. Opening batter Ikramullah scored 130 off 147 balls, laced with 13 fours and two sixes. Shahid Ali coming to bat at number three scored 51 off 71 balls, striking four boundaries.

Sindh U19 Blues’ Hameed Karim was pick of the bowlers with three for 62 from 10 overs. Ziaullah bagged two wickets for 47 from his 10 overs.

Pool B fixtures:

At the Saeed Ajmal Cricket Academy in Faisalabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Whites continue their winning streak in the tournament by beating Northern U19 Whites by 81 runs. Opting to bat first, Shahzaib Khan’s unbeaten 100 off 111 balls helped Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Whites post 285 for four from 50 overs. The left-handed Shahzaib innings included six fours and two sixes. He was equally supported by Abbas Ali who scored a 54-ball 52 and his innings included four fours and one six.

In reply, Northern U19 Whites were bundled out for 204 in the 44th over. Wicketkeeper-batter Dawood Nazar top-scored with 73 off 91, smashing seven fours and one six.

Jawad Ali representing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Whites bagged three wickets for 37. Mohammad Irfan and Tahir Ali grabbed two wickets apiece.

In another round fixture, captain’s innings from Ali Ishaq guided his side Sindh U19 Whites to a comprehensive nine-wicket win over Balochistan U19 Whites at the LCCA Ground in Lahore.

Chasing 238 to win, Sindh U19 openers Ali and Hamza Qureshi (35 off 37, eight fours) provided a solid 81-run start to the innings. After the departure of Hamza, Nauman Ali joined Ali and both batters played shots at parts of the ground at will and helped their side achieved the target in just 28.1 overs. The pair added 157 runs for the unbroken second wicket. Ali top-scored with 119 off 78 balls, which included 14 fours and three sixes. Nauman struck seven fours and three sixes during his knock of 69 from 57 balls faced.

Earlier, after opting to bat first, captain Mohammad Siddique struck 110 from 122 balls to help his side post 237 for six from 50 overs. Siddique’s innings included 14 fours and one six. Dunya Khan chipped in with 35 off 33 balls, which included three fours and two sixes.

For Sindh U19 Whites, Saqlain Nawaz picked three wickets for 39 runs from 10 overs.

In the last fixture of the day and from Pool B, Southern Punjab U19 Whites defeated Central Punjab U19 Whites by three wickets at the Rana Naveed Cricket Academy in Sheikhupura.

Batting first, Central Punjab U19 Whites scored 271 for the loss of five wickets from 50 overs. Opening batter Ali Zoraiz scored 70 off 80 and struck 10 boundaries. He added 106 runs for the opening wicket with Waqas Abbas who scored a 67-ball 38 and struck six fours.  Captain Usman Nadeem was other notable run getter with 66 off 76 balls with eight fours.

For Southern Punjab U19 Whites, Mohammad Aqib and Arafat Ahmed grabbed two wickets each.

In return, Mohammad Ammar’s 92 and captain Uzair Mumtaz’s knock of 72 helped side achieved the target in the last over with three wickets in hand. Ammar’s innings included 11 fours which came off 124 balls. Uzair struck eight fours and two sixes during his 74-ball innings.

For Central Punjab Whites, Abdul Rehman and Mohammad Ibtisam-Ul-Rehman picked two wickets each.

At the end of fourth round matches, Central Punjab U19 Blues lead Pool A with four wins from as many matches in the tournament. In Pool B, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Whites also continue to dominate and has won all four matches they have played so far in the tournament.

The fifth and final round of the tournament will be played on Wednesday, 6 July and the PCB will continue to cover the event digitally on CricHQ. The final of the 12-team tournament will be played on Friday, 8 July at the Rana Naveed Cricket Academy in Sheikhupura between the top teams of both groups.
