KP U19 Whites' Mohammad Irfan takes nine wickets in drawn game

Karachi 6 August 2022: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Whites’ Mohammad Irfan took nine wickets in a drawn game against Central Punjab U19 Whites at the TMC Ground on Saturday. 

The other three matches of the second round of the National U19 Championship which went into the third day also ended in draw. On Friday, in Pool A, Southern Punjab U19 Blues defeated Sindh U19 Blues by six wickets. In Pool B, Northern U19 Whites defeated Balochistan U19 Whites by an innings and 41 runs.

Pool A fixtures:

At the UBL Sports Complex, Balochistan U19 Blues and Northern U19 Blues played out a drawn game. On day three, resuming their second innings at the overnight score of 69 for two, Northern Blues declared their innings on 224 for eight with a lead of 235. Opening batter and captain Shamyl Hussain top-scored with 92. He struck 10 fours and two sixes off 179 balls faced.

For Balochistan Blues, Sajjad Ali took four wickets for 68.

In reply, Balochistan scored four for no loss from one over when stumps were drawn.

In another drawn match of the group, chasing 214 to win, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Blues managed to score 82 for five in 18 overs against Central Punjab U19 Blues, when stumps were drawn. Central Punjab Blues’ right-arm fast Ali Raza bagged three wickets for 28.

Earlier, resuming their second innings at the overnight score of 30 for one, Central Punjab U19 Blues were dismissed for 187 in 84.4 overs. Opening batter Azan Awais top-scored with 48. He also scored 128 runs in the first innings.

For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Blues, Mohammad Shoaib was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets for 27.

Pool B fixtures:

At the HPC Ground, in a thrilling contest between Sindh U19 Whites and Southern Punjab U19 Whites, the match ended in a draw. Chasing 310 to win, Sindh U19 Whites were 264 for nine in 74 overs when stumps were drawn. Syed Tayyab Hussain batting at number six came to rescue Sindh Whites with a knock of an unbeaten 47 from 95 balls, which included four boundaries. Captain Mohammad Shahwaiz Yasir and Noman Ali scored half-centuries.

For Southern Punjab U19 Whites, Aqib Asghar, Harib Moeen, Mohammad Ismail and Mohammad Uzair Mumtaz bagged two wickets each.

Earlier, resuming their second innings at the overnight score of 70 for one, Southern Punjab U19 Whites declared their innings on 177 for four in 35.4 overs. Opening batter Hamza Nawaz top-scored with 78 off 105, and struck eight fours and two sixes. Captain Uzair scored a 85-ball 73, which included 11 fours.

Sindh’s Abdul Moeez took three wickets for 42 from 5.4 overs.

At the TMC Ground, chasing 200 to win, Central Punjab U19 Whites were struggling at 83 for six when match ended in a draw against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Whites. Resuming their second innings at the overnight score 60 for three, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa added 39 before declaring their innings on 99 for five in 31 overs.

In reply, Central Punjab managed to score 83 for six from 45 overs with Mohammad Ibtisam-ul-Rehman top-scoring with an unbeaten 39 off 93 balls, hitting five fours. Left-arm orthodox Mohammad Irfan took four wickets for 28 from 22 overs. He ended up with match figures of nine for 66 from 50.3 overs.

The third round of the National U19 Championship will be played from 10 August.
