- PTV’s Taimur Khan, WAPDA’s Muhammad Akhlaq and SBP’s Mohammad Faizan scored centuries
Karachi, 10 December 2025: The second round of the President’s Cup Grade-I 2025-26 ended with triumphs for Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Water and Power Development Auhtority (WAPDA) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) at the four venues in Karachi.
Mubasir Khan and Sajid Khan wreaked havoc with the ball taking a combined haul of 9-16 in 14.2 overs to help Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) thrash Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) by 100 runs in a low-scoring contest at the UBL Sports Complex.
Chasing 141 to win, KRL fell flat for a mere 40 in 20.2 overs with only opening duo of Waqar Ahamed (14, 20b, 2x4s) and Shahzaib Khan (12, 46b, 1x4) entering double figures. Off-spinning all-rounder Mubasir, who picked up his second List A five-fer, registered the 18th List A hat-trick on Pakistan soil.
Mubasir’s hat-trick came with KRL’s score 35-6 in 18th over as he dismissed Shahzaib, Shayan Sheikh and Sufyan Moqim on second, third and fourth ball of the over. Mubasir’s figures of 7-3-6-5 were backed up by Sajid who picked up 4-10 in 7.2 overs bowling two maidens as well.
Earlier, KRL’s decision to bowl first paid dividends with SNGPL slipping to 78-7 and then 140 all out in 34.1 overs. Shan Masood contributed 47 off 54 balls, while no.9 Muhammad Irfan chipped in with a run-a-ball 32 hitting five fours.
KRL’s Saqib Khan picked up four wickets for 21 runs, while Iftikhar Ahmed dismissed three batters in his 10 overs. Sufyan bagged two wickets in his four overs.
Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) bagged a thumping nine-wicket win over Ghani Glass at the Naya Nazimabad Ground chasing the 194-run target in 35.2 overs. WAPDA opening batter Muhammad Akhlaq reached his fifth List A century with six when they required one run to win.
Akhlaq’s blazing knock of 102 not out came off 96 balls hitting four fours and eight sixes. He also shared a 134-run opening stand with Mohammad Arif (67, 91b, 4x4s, 5x6s) and an unbeaten 65-run third-wicket stand with Ayaz Tasawar, who contributed 12 not out off 28 balls.
Earlier, Hussain Talat and Zafar Gohar’s 63-run fifth-wicket partnership was the lone highlight of Ghani Glass’ innings as they lost half their side for 83 runs and the other half for 47 runs, getting bundled out for 193 in 48 overs.
WAPDA’s left-arm pacer Akif Javed returned figures of 8-0-45-4, while Mujtaba Khan picked up two wickets.
At the KCCA Stadium, SBP rode on opening batter Mohammad Faizan’s second List A century to overhaul the 258-run target set by Sahir Associates. Faizan contributed a brisk 106 off 110 balls with the help of 13 fours and two sixes, while also sharing an 84-run opening stand with captain Imran Butt (40, 47b, 6x4s).
Saud Shakeel scored 55 off 81 balls at no.3 hitting four fours and partnered with Faizan for a match-winning 101-run second-wicket stand. SBP reached the target with eight balls left and Rameez Aziz (19 not out, 23b, 1x4) and Muhammad Ghazi Ghori (16 not out, 16b, 2x4s) unbeaten on the crease.
Sahir Associates’ Hafiz Mohammad Suleman picked up two wickets. Earlier, Sahir were asked to bat first and slumped to 135-6 before half-centuries by Mohammad Mohsin Khan (53, 52b, 4x4s, 2x6s) and Asfand Mehran (51, 51b, 2x4s, 1x6) pulled their team out of dire straits with a 70-run stand.
Sahir finished with 257-9 in their 50 overs as SBP’s Shahid Aziz picked up three wickets. Salman Ali Agha and Mehran Mumtaz dismissed two batters each.
OGDCL beat Pakistan Television (PTV) by five wickets as they chased the 269-run target with 24 balls to spare at the Oval Academy Ground.
Rohail Nazir (81, 82b, 4x4s, 3x6s) and Imam-ul-Haq (63, 60b, 9x4s, 1x6) struck half-centuries in the chase and added 64 runs for the third wicket. Danish Aziz (39 not out, 26b, 5x4s, 1x6) and skipper Adil Amin (32, 51b, 1x4) chipped in with handy thirties.
Danish also put on a 59-run unbeaten stand with Haroon Arshad (19 not out, 26b, 1x4) to take their team home. For PTV, Faisal Akram picked up two wickets.
Earlier, Taimur Khan’s brilliant maiden List A century lifted PTV from 75-5 to 268-9 in the allotted 50 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Taimur remained 117 not out off 100 balls hitting nine fours and six sixes, while also stitching a 99-run stand with Mohammad Taha (63, 92b, 4x4s, 1x6).
Opening batter Shamyl Hussain scored 52 off 39 balls hitting seven fours and one six, earlier. PTV had slipped to 175-8 before Ahmed Daniyal’s 35-ball 24 comprising two fours and one six took them to a competitive total.
