- Ghani Glass’ Mohsin Riaz struck 141 in vain
Karachi, 12 December 2025: The third round of the President’s Cup Grade-I 2025-26 saw Sahir Associates spring a massive surprise against Ghani Glass, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) won a last-ball thriller, while Pakistan Television (PTV) managed a close six-run DLS win.
Khan Research Laboratories had opted to bowl first against Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) in the first day-night fixture of the tournament at the Naya Nazimabad. The match report of that fixture will be shared in due course.
Usman Khan and Mohammad Faiq registered a thumping 275-run stand to help Sahir Associates chase 328-run target set by Ghani Glass with 79 balls left and eight wickets remaining at the Oval Academy Ground.
Usman remained unbeaten on 155, while Faiq scored 108 not out as Ghani Glass bowlers were kept on their toes as the duo struck a combined number of 11 sixes. Usman faced 98 balls hitting 16 fours and eight sixes in his heroic effort.
Faiq – who joined Usman at 55-2 – faced 76 balls in his maiden List A century striking 10 fours and three sixes. The duo batted for 28 overs to hand Sahir their first win in three games flexing their batting muscles in an emphatic manner. For Ghani Glass, Noman Ali picked up the two wickets.
Earlier, Mohsin Riaz’s maiden List A century (141, 104b, 8x4s, 8x6s) and a 129-run fifth-wicket stand with Tayyab Tahir (65, 58b, 5x4s, 2x6s) propelled Ghani Glass from 125-4 in 28 overs to 254-5 in 45.2 overs. Saeed Ali then struck two fours and one six in his 12-ball 18 as Ghani Glass posted 327-7 in 50 overs.
Sahir Associates’ Shahid Ali picked up three for 64 in his 10 overs.
At the KCCA Stadium, SNGPL beat State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) by three wickets in a last-ball thriller to register their third win on the trot as they chased the 287-run target with three wickets in the bag.
Opening batters Haseebullah (89, 112b, 6x4s, 2x6s) and Azan Awais (59, 80b, 4x4s, 2x6s) put on a brilliant 121-run stand to provide their team a head start in the chase. No.3 Kamran Ghulam chipped in with a 37-ball 33 hitting two fours and also shared a 49-run second-wicket partnership with Haseebullah.
SNGPL were cruising at 170-2, when SBP started making inroads with Muhammad Awais Zafar walking in at this juncture. Awais remained unbeaten on 65 off 42 balls hitting three fours and four sixes to make sure SNGPL remain on course to the triumph.
After SBP took seven wickets for 270 runs on the board, Awais and Mohammad Irfan (8 not out, 7b, 1x4) then stitched an unbeaten 20-run stand, with the former sealing the win striking a boundary on the last ball, as SNGPL required one run to win.
For SBP, Kashif Bhatti picked up 3-47 in his 10 overs, while Mohammad Ismail and Niaz Khan dismissed two batters each.
Earlier, SBP’s Rameez Aziz, Muhammad Irfan Khan and Mohammad Hurraira struck half-centuries to take their team to 286-8 in the allotted 50 overs. Hurraira (54, 64b, 2x4s, 1x6) and Imran Butt (45, 64b, 7x4s) stitched a 82-run stand for the second-wicket before SBP slipped to 126-4.
Rameez (62, 51b, 4x4s, 3x6s) and Irfan (57, 62b, 7x4s) then lifted their team past the 200-run mark with a 96-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Mehran Mumtaz’s unbeaten 11-ball 19 comprising two fours and one six then provided SBP the late flourish.
SNGPL’s Mohammad Azab returned figures of 9.1-0-37-3, while Irfan picked up two wickets.
PTV edged past Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) by six runs on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method to defend their 272-8 total at the UBL Sports Complex, Karachi.
Chasing 273 to win, WAPDA were 235-4 in 47 overs, requiring 38 off 18 balls, when early onset of bad light halted the proceedings after which they were found to be behind the par score.
WAPDA’s Muhammad Akhlaq (84, 109b, 5x4s, 3x6s) and Sharoon Siraj (59, 72b, 3x4s, 2x6s) contributed half centuries before falling to player of the match Jahandad Khan. No.3 Imran Dogar scored 40 off 63 balls hitting three fours and two sixes.
PTV had reduced WAPDA to 208-4, when Bismillah Khan (16 not out, 12b, 2x4s) and Ayaz Tasawar (15 not out, 15b, 1x4) got together and remained unbeaten for a 27-run stand. Jahandad’s two wickets came for 40 runs in nine overs.
Earlier, PTV’s opening duo Shamyl Hussain (58, 49b, 5x4s, 4x6s) and Yasir Khan (50, 69b, 8x4s) provided their team an 89-run stand after they were invited to bat first.
PTV then lost eight wickets for 150 runs before Taimur Khan’s 32-ball 33 (3x4s, 2x6s) and no.9 Jahandad’s 29 not out off 21 balls comprising two fours and as many sixes gave their team a competitive total of 272-9 in 50 overs. Jahandad also shared an unbeaten 33-run stand for the ninth wicket with Ahmed Daniyal (13 not out, 8b, 1x6).
For WAPDA, Mujtaba Khan picked up two wickets for 46 runs in eight overs.
