Bangladesh secure seven-wicket win over Pakistan in series opener

Dhaka, 20 July 2025: Bangladesh beat Pakistan by seven wickets in the first T20I to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday evening. The second T20I of the series will be played at the same venue on Tuesday, 22 July, with the first ball scheduled for 5pm PKT.

After being put in to bat, Pakistan were bowled out for 110 in the 20th over, with Fakhar Zaman top-scoring for the side with a 34-ball 44. Fakhar’s innings included six fours and a six, while Mohammad Abbas Afridi (22 off 24 balls, 3x6s) and Khushdil Shah (17 off 23, 1x4, 1x6) were the only other batters to reach double figures.

The touring side, who had scored at over 10 runs an over until the third over, went on to lose nine wickets for 78 runs, with the last four wickets falling for just seven runs.

For Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed picked up three wickets, while Mustafizur Rahman bagged two.

In reply, the hosts achieved the target in 15.3 overs, losing three wickets in the process. Opening batter Parvez Hossain Emon returned unbeaten on 56 off 39 balls, hitting three fours and five maximums. He shared a 73-run stand for the third wicket with Towhid Hridoy (36 off 37, 2x4s, 2x6s), after debutant Salman Mirza struck twice in his opening spell.

Left-arm pacer Salman ended with figures of two for 23 in 3.3 overs, while Abbas was the other wicket-taker with figures of 2-0-16-1.
