Lahore, 5 September 2025: The second day of the second round of Hanif Mohammad Trophy saw centuries from Multan’s Imam-ul-Haq, Faisalabad’s Muhammad Awais Zafar, Karachi Whites’ Saad Baig and Jahanzaib Sultan, Rawalpindi’s Yasir Khan and a five-wicket haul from Karachi Blues’ Danish Aziz.
Group A
Faisalabad’s Muhammad Awais Zafar scored an unbeaten century (117 not out, 156b, 14x4s, 2x6s) to steer his team to 285-5 in 77 overs at stumps on day two in reply to Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s (AJK) 298 all out in 96.2 overs at the Dring Stadium in Bahawalpur.
Awais shared a 112-run stand with Atiq-ur-Rehman (65, 97b, 7x4s) after Faisalabad had lost three wickets for 80 runs. Earlier, AJK lost their two remaining wickets for 12 runs after resuming from overnight score of 286-8.
Hyderabad resumed their first innings from overnight score of 361-2 in 84 overs and were bowled out for 524 in 142.1 overs against Lahore Blues at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Saad Khan top-scored with 175 off 242 balls hitting 30 fours.
For Lahore Blues, Qasim Akram, Nisar Ahmed, Hunain Shah and Aamir Jamal picked up two wickets each. Blues finished the day with 117-4 in 29 overs trailing by 407 runs as opening batter Mohammad Saleem’s unbeaten half-century (66 not out, 87b, 6x4s, 1x6) kept them afloat.
Karachi Whites’ opening batters Saad Baig (146, 215b, 17x4s, 1x6) and Jahanzaib Sultan (118, 154b, 11x4s, 3x6s) struck centuries and put on a 212-run opening stand to take their team to 457-4 in 108 overs in reply to Quetta’s 216 all out at the Abbasia Sports Complex, Rahim Yar Khan.
Mohammad Taha contributed half-century (52, 82b, 4x4s, 1x6) in the mammoth total, while Mohammad Usman Rahim (70 not out, 112b, 5x4s) and Saifullah Bangash (44 not out, 63b, 4x4s) were unbeaten at stumps as their team led by 241 runs.
Group B
Imam-ul-Haq struck an unbeaten century (176 not out, 182b, 20x4s, 2x6s) and shared a 190-run opening stand with Zain Abbas (81, 128b, 2x4s, 1x6) as Multan 330-1 in 64 overs on the board against Dera Murad Jamali at the National Bank Stadium.
Imam and Imran Rafiq (70 not out, 75b, 10x4s) also shared an unbeaten 140-run second-wicket partnership as Multan trailed by a mere 31 runs in first innings by the close of play.
Earlier, DM Jamali could only add 89 runs to their overnight score of 272-4 as Arafat Minhas’ 4-46 in 20 overs restricted them to 361 all out in 111.1 overs with Nasir Khan being the top-scorer (148, 283b, 11x4s, 1x6).
Rawalpindi were 291 runs ahead of Larkana as Yasir Khan’s century (127b, 8x4s, 2x6s) propelled them to 277-4 in the second innings at the close of play.
Earlier, Larkana’s first innings folded for 160 all out in 51.3 overs as Kashif Ali picked up four wickets, while Mehran Mumtaz, Mohammad Awais Anwar and Mohammad Faizan picked up two wickets each. Larkana fell 14 runs short of Rawalpindi’s first innings total after resuming the day two from 107-6.
Karachi Blues gained a 250-run second innings lead over FATA at the UBL Sports Complex, Karachi as they finished the day two with 198-8 in 57 overs with the help of half-centuries from Muhammad Ghazi Ghori (73, 96b, 9x4s) and Danish Aziz (56, 130b, 6x4s).
Earlier, Danish proved his all-round prowess with figures of 17-3-40-5 to help Karachi Blues skittle FATA for 165 in 59.5 overs after they resumed from overnight score of 86-4 in 29 overs.
