Lahore Blues, Faisalabad, Karachi Blues register thumping wins on day three

Lahore, 18 September 2025: Three out of the six fourth round matches of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy finished with Lahore Blues, Faisalabad and Karachi Blues bagging crucial wins.

Group A

Faisalabad bagged their second win of the tournament as they beat Quetta by an innings and 92 runs on day three at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Quetta folded for a mere 137 in 33.3 overs in their second innings after conceding a 229-run first innings lead as pacer Asad Raza picked up 4-30 in six overs, while Ahmed Safi Abdullah, Mudasar Zunair and Shehzad Gul picked up two wickets each.

Earlier, Faisalabad added 45 runs to their overnight score of 371-7 as their innings concluded for 416 in 93.1 overs.

Lahore Blues registered their first win in the tournament as they thumped Karachi Whites by 257 runs at the Dring Stadium, Bahawalpur. On day three, Karachi Whites were set a mammoth 561-run target but they only managed to score 203 in 61 overs losing all wickets as Lahore Blues’ Sajjad Khan picked up 5-56 in 19 overs.

Earlier in the day, Lahore Blues’ second innings slumped from 205-3 in 57 overs to 257 all out with skipper Imran Butt extending his overnight score 92 not out to 102 (12 fours) off 196 balls. Karachi Whites’ Maaz Khurram registered a hat-trick as he returned figures of 9-2-30-3.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir trail by 47 runs in the second innings against Hyderabad with 10 wickets left as they were 76 for no loss at close of play on day three at the Abbasia Sports Complex, Rahim Yar Khan.

Earlier, Hyderabad gained a 123-run first innings lead with the help of an unbeaten century from Danyal Hussain Rajput (136 not out, 172b, 18x4s, 1x6) in reply to AJK’s first innings total of 359 all out. Hyderabad continued from overnight score of 236-3 in 72 overs and were bowled out for 482 in 132 overs.

Group B

Test pacer Mir Hamza took 4-18 in 9.1 overs for Karachi Blues to dismantle Larkana for 120 in 35.1 overs as they were handed an innings and 134-run defeat at the SBP Sports Complex, Karachi.

Larkana were 25-3 in 10 overs following on at the start of the day three and soon slipped to 64-7 before Mushtaq Ahmed’s 28-ball 39 took them above 100-run mark. Larkana had folded for 81 in their first innings in reply to Karachi Blues’ 335 all out.

Multan require 198 more runs to win against FATA with 10 wickets in hand at the UBL Sports Complex as they finished the day with 16 for no loss.

Earlier in the day Multan were dismissed for 231 in 73.2 overs in their first innings after resuming from overnight score of 160-3 in 50 overs as they conceded a 53-run deficit.

Opening batter Zain Abbas fell for 98 off 161 balls hitting 10 fours and two sixes, while no other Multan batter crossed the 35-run mark as Asif Afridi (5-83 in 28.2 overs) bagged a five-for, while Shahid Aziz dismissed four batters.

In turn, FATA slumped to 160 all out after being 77-2 as Faisal Akram picked up 4-39, while Mohammad Shan and Ali Usman picked up three wickets each. FATA set Multan a 214-run target.

Dera Murad Jamali were 87 runs behind Rawalpindi in their second innings as they finished the day three with 170-5 in 80 overs at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.

For DM Jamali, Dawood Khan (69 not out, 123b, 10x4s) held the fort with an unbeaten half-century, while Nasir Khan and Aqib Junaid also chipped in with 99-ball 38 and 117-ball 37, respectively. For Rawalpindi, Mubasir Khan returned figures of 32-16-45-3 as they searched for a second win in the tournament.

Earlier, Rawalpindi – who gained a 257-run first innings lead - resumed from their overnight score of 242-4 in 67 overs and were bowled out for 377 in 93.3 overs with Abdul Faseeh extending his century to 161 off 227 balls and Aqib Shah scoring 104 runs off 192 balls.
