Lahore, 13 September 2025: The day three of the third round of Hanif Mohammad Trophy witnessed riveting action as one Group A game ended up tied in Bahawalpur, while two other games – at Multan Cricket Stadium and UBL Sports Complex in Karachi – saw follow-ons being inflicted on Rawalpindi and Karachi Whites.
Group A
At the Dring Stadium in Bahawalpur, the Lahore Blues and Azad Jammu and Kashmir fixture ended in a rare stalemate on day three as AJK – chasing a target of 215 – were bowled out for 214 in 66 overs with the last pair managing to add 27 runs – from being 132-7 and 187-9 at one point.
Both teams aggregated 383 runs each in their two batting innings as all 40 wickets fell inside three days.
For Lahore Blues – who had overcome a 98-run first innings deficit - Qasim Akram led the match-saving effort with a haul of 4-54 in 22 overs, while he was supported by Mohammad Waheed (2-10) and Hunain Shah (2-24). Sajjad Khan and Nisar Ahmed dismissed a batter each.
Earlier, Lahore Blues only added 69 runs to their overnight score of 243-6 as they were bowled out for 312 in 90.1 overs, setting AJK a target of 215 to win. Umar Siddiq’s unbeaten overnight century outing finished on 161 off 270 balls having hit 16 fours.
For AJK, Jawad Imtiaz picked up 5-58 in 17 overs, while Aqib Liaqat and Faizan Saleem dismissed two batters each.
Faisalabad inflicted follow-on on Karachi Whites, who were dismissed for a paltry 140 in 41 overs after resuming from overnight score of 127-7. Whites were in a 247-run deficit after the completion of their first innings at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
In turn, Whites were helped to a meagre 37-run second innings lead with just three wickets in hand as they finished the day with 210-7 on the board in 73.4 overs. Mohammad Taha (60, 96b, 4x4s, 3x6s) and Mohammad Usman Rahim (50 not out, 135b, 4x4s) contributed half-centuries to Whites’ total.
Hyderabad lead by 364 runs against Quetta in the second innings as they finished the day three with 170-7 in 34 overs at the Abbasia Sports Complex, Rahim Yar Khan. First innings double-centurion Mohammad Suleman chipped in with a 60-ball 68 hitting 12 fours.
Earlier, Quetta’s skipper Abdul Wahid Bangalzai led from front with a century (121, 237b, 18x4s) to help his team extend the overnight 137-5 in 41.2 overs to 286 all out in 89 overs as they conceded a 194-run deficit.
Mohammad Ibrahim – who earlier bagged a five-for – chipped in with a 112-ball 50 striking seven fours in a 102-run stand for the sixth wicket with Bangalzai.
Group B
Rawalpindi replied to Multan’s follow-on call at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi with 168-2 in 39 overs as they were still 80 runs behind at stumps on day three.
Earlier, Faisal Akram – who picked his second five-for of the tournament – bagged 7-41 in 15.2 overs to help his team fold Rawalpindi for a meagre 108 in 40.2 overs – who conceded a 248-run deficit - with only Mubasir Khan (38, 56b, 6x4s) crossing 20-run mark for his team.
Multan declared their first innings 356-7 in 119.1 overs after the 176-run sixth-wicket stand between Imran Rafiq (92, 240b, 9x4s) and Arafat Minhas (90, 182b, 7x4s, 2x6s) came to an end. Mubasir Khan picked four wickets for Rawalpindi.
DM Jamali trailed by 213 runs in their second innings as they finished the day eight for none in six overs against Karachi Blues at the National Bank Stadium.
Saud Shakeel-led Blues – after dismissing DM Jamali for 180 in first innings – went berserk posting 401-8 declared in 76.1 overs as Usman Khan struck a century (139, 112b, 20x4s, 2x6s), while Omair Bin Yousuf (95, 115b, 10x4s, 2x6s) and Rameez Aziz (79 not out, 83b, 4x4s, 3x6s) hit half-centuries.
Earlier, DM Jamali could only add 34 runs to their overnight score of 146-7 as they were bowled out for 180 in 52.1 overs. Karachi Blues’ Fahad Amin (4-37), Saqib Khan (3-51), Muhammad Umar (3-52) accounted for 10 wickets.
FATA lead by 82 runs against Larkana as they finished the day three with 279-5 on the board courtesy opening batter Mohammad Farooq’s century (132, 122b, 2x4s, 12x6s) at the SBP Sports Complex, Karachi.
Earlier, FATA’s pace duo of Akif Javed (4-32) and Sameen Gul (4-47) accounted for eight wickets combined to put an end to Larkana’s first innings on 197 all out in 73.1 overs after they began from overnight score of 99-4 in 50 overs.
Asif Afridi took the other two wickets, while Larkana’s Ghulam Raza (68, 83b, 6x4s, 4x6s) and Mohsin Raza (51, 160b, 4x4s) struck half-centuries.
