- Sahir Associates’ pacer Khan Zaib picked up 5-86 against Ghani Glass
Karachi, 27 January 2026: The sixth and penultimate round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I 2025-26 began across four venues in Karachi on Tuesday with the top four teams Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) and Pakistan Television (PTV) vying for the top two spots.
Fast bowler Niaz Khan and opening batter Abdullah Fazal headlined the opening day for the sixth-placed State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) as they put Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) on the back foot with dominant all-round display.
OGDCL were bundled out for a mere 76 in 26 overs after opting to bat first with only Mushtaq Ahmed (19, 20b, 3x4s) and Umar Siddiq (10, 34b, 1x4) entering double figures. Niaz bagged his seventh first-class five-for returning figures of 11-6-19-5, while Qasim Akram’s off-spin delivered three for 20 in six overs.
In turn, following SBP skipper Hasan Raza’s early departure, Abdullah and Mohammad Huraira stitched a 242-run stand, taking their team to 246-1 in 59 overs at close. Abdullah, who struck his fourth first-class century, remained unbeaten for 140 off 187 balls comprising 19 fours and three sixes.
Huraira contributed 95 not out off 164 balls hitting 10 fours in the double-century unbeaten stand and will look to register his 11th first-class century early on day two.
At the SBP Sports Complex, fast bowler Khan Zaib bagged a haul of six for 86 – his best figures in an innings – as Sahir Associates dismissed fifth-placed Ghani Glass for 155 in 42.2 overs. Khan claimed his third five-for in the tournament and first-class career.
Sharjeel Khan top-scored for Ghani Glass with a 44-ball 45 hitting eight fours, skipper Noman Ali chipped in with 33 off 32 balls striking four sixes and one four.
In turn, Sahir closed the day with 75-2 on the board in 37 overs. Mohammad Faiq (36 not out, 78b, 4x4s) and Mohammad Saleem (24 not out, 86b, 1x4, 1x6) took their team out of trouble with an unbeaten 54-run stand for the third wicket after they had slipped to 21-2.
Pakistan Television posted 269 all out in 79.3 overs after opting to bat first against WAPDA at the UBL Sports Complex. Skipper Shamyl Hussain set the tone for the innings with a 45-ball 51 hitting four fours and as many sixes and also shared a 73-run opening stand with Waqar Hussain (40, 58b, 6x4s).
Mohammad Taha scored 101-ball 47 hitting eight fours, while no.5 batter Usman Salahuddin (54, 143b, 3x4s) crossed the 10,000 first-class run mark. For WAPDA, skipper Khalid Usman returned frugal figures of 20.3-8-33-4, while Mohammad Asghar and Mohammad Naveed picked up two wickets each.
At the KCCA Stadium, KRL were 61-2 in 28 overs at stumps in reply to SNGPL’s 199 all out in 61.3 overs. Shahzaib Khan (29 not out, 87b, 4x4s) and Imran Rafiq (10 not out, 41b, 1x4) were unbeaten at close for KRL, while Shehzad Gul and Sajid struck once each.
Earlier, KRL spinners Hamza Nazar (3-40), Iftikhar Ahmed (2-53) and Sufyan Moqim (1-25) spun a web around SNGPL batters, while pacer Mohammad Hamza picked up two wickets. Iftikhar also completed 100 wickets in first-class cricket.
Mubasir Khan (38, 48b, 6x4s) and Muhammad Awais Zafar (38, 84b, 3x4s, 1x6) were the joint-top-scorers for SNGPL as Abid Ali (24, 38b, 3x4s), Aamir Jamal (23, 34b, 3x4s), Shan Masood (22, 27b, 3x4s) and Mohammad Irfan (20 not out, 44b, 2x4s) got starts but couldn’t convert them.
