Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Second XI tournament: Asif Afridi produces all-round brilliance for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Karachi, 5 December 2020: The ninth-round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Second XI (three-day non-first-class) tournament commenced at three Karachi venues today (Saturday). Asif Afridi produced a sensational all-round performance (five wickets and 38 not out) for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to give his side a slight edge against Central Punjab at the TMC Ground.

Northern vs Balochistan, NBP Sports Complex, Karachi:

Northern enjoyed a great day with the bat after being put into bat as they ended their first innings stipulation of 83 overs at 361 for seven. Jamal Anwar top-scored with an unbeaten 93 off 92 balls (five fours, five sixes), Abdul Faseeh scored 83 while fellow opener Hasan Raza contributed 55 runs.

The openers provided a solid platform with a 119-run stand which was then fully exploited by Jamal in his stroke-filled innings.

Balochistan had reached 21 for no loss when stumps were drawn on the opening day.

Central Punjab vs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, TMC Ground, Karachi:

Central Punjab were rolled over for 171 runs in only 41.2 overs after they were asked to bat first. Fast bowler Ehsan Adil contributed 48 runs to push the score past 150, Anas Mahmood made 45 runs. Asif Afridi enjoyed another useful stint with the ball as he claimed five wickets for 72 runs; Saqib Jamil took three wickets for 51 runs.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ended day-one at 164 for six in their first innings after 49 overs of batting. After crashing to 95 for six they were rescued by an unbeaten seventh-wicket stand of 69 runs between Mehran Ibrahim (40 not out) and Asif Afridi (38 not out). Afridi who enjoyed a great all-round day will resume his innings tomorrow with Mehran. Kamran Afzal and Asfand Mehran took three wickets each for Central Punjab

Sindh vs Southern Punjab, KCCA Stadium, Karachi:

Southern Punjab were bowled out for 232 runs in 81.4 overs in their first innings after they were asked to bat first. Sindh sent their opponents packing courtesy a brilliant bowling performance by spinner Ashiq Ali who took six wickets for 84 runs.

Mohammad Asghar took two wickets, Waqar Hussain top-scored with 68 off 128 balls for Southern Punjab, Rameez Alam made 67 unbeaten runs off 161 balls.

Sindh ended day-one at 15 for no loss in their first innings after seven overs play.
