Quaid-e-Azam Trophy three-day tournament, Nasir Nawaz hits unbeaten 147

Karachi, 7 November 2020: Northern’s Nasir Nawaz hit an unbeaten 147 as Northern amassed 344 for seven on the opening day of their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy three-day tournament for Second XIs, fifth-round fixture against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the State Bank Stadium in Karachi. The other two matches between Sindh and Balochistan and Central and Southern Punjab were dominated by the bowlers. 

Sindh vs Balochistan, KCCA Stadium, Karachi:

Batting first, Sindh were rolled over for 121 runs in 53.2 overs. Fahad Iqbal top-scored for Sindh with 39 runs, Hasan Mohsin scored 16, no other batsman reached double figures. For Balochistan Muhammad Talha took four wickets, Umaid Asif and Jalat Khan took three wickets each.

In reply, Balochistan also had to endure a torrid time with the bat as they ended the first day on 82 for seven in 36 overs. Taimur Khan is unbeaten on 26 while Abdul Rehman Muzammil scored 22 runs. Aamer Ali has so far taken three while Abrar Ahmed has collected two wickets. Balochistan will resume their first innings tomorrow, 39 runs behind Sindh with only three wickets intact.

Central Punjab v Southern Punjab, TMC Ground, Karachi:

Central Punjab’s decision to bat first backfired as they were rolled over for 97 runs in their first innings in 45.2 overs. Kamran Afzal top-scored with 37 runs. Left-arm-spinner Umar Khan took four wickets for 16 runs. Ali Usman took three for 43 runs.

In reply, Southern Punjab also found batting a challenge as they ended the day at 154 for six in 48 overs. Tayyab Tahir top-scored with 42 while Mohammad Mohsin made 35 runs. Left-arm-spinner Kamran Afzal took three while Atizaz Habib Khan took two wickets.

Southern Punjab will resume their first innings tomorrow with a 57-run lead and four first innings wickets in hand.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa vs Northern, State Bank Stadium, Karachi:

Nasir Nawaz enjoyed a great day with the bat as the middle-order batsman smashed 12 fours and six sixes in an unbeaten 147 off 189 balls to help Northern reach 344 for seven in 83 overs at close of first day’s play against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Kashif Iqbal and Shoaib Ahmed contributed fifties to help Northern reach a strong position.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had reached 14 for no loss in five overs in reply when stumps were drawn for the day.
