Rehan Afridi, Zeeshan Malik score centuries; Noman takes six-fer

Lahore, 29 September 2023: FATA’s Rehan Afridi and Rawalpindi’s Zeeshan Malik scored centuries against Multan and Faisalabad, respectively on day two of the fourth round matches of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy on Friday.

Test all-rounder Faheem Ashraf, playing for Faisalabad took a five-wicket haul against Rawalpindi, while Karachi Whites’ Noman Ali grabbed six wickets against Lahore Whites.

Faisalabad v Rawalpindi, Pindi Cricket Stadium

Resuming their first innings at 77 for four in 32.3 overs, Rawalpindi were bundled out for 144 in 56.3 overs courtesy five for 12 runs from right-arm fast bowler Faheem Ashraf. For Rawalpindi, Zeeshan Malik, who returned undefeated on 60 last evening, added 48 runs to his overnight score. Zeeshan struck 15 fours off 173 balls faced.

Starting their second innings with a deficit of 32 runs, Faisalabad managed to score 135 for five in 47.2 overs, when stumps were drawn.

Opening batter Mohammad Huraira was the top run-getter for his side, scoring 87 off 138 balls, hitting 10 fours.

For Faisalabad, Mohammad Awais Anwar and Mohammad Faizan bagged two wickets apiece.

FATA v Multan at Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi

FATA’s Rehan Afridi scored an unbeaten 135 off 149 balls, which included 19 fours and three sixes to help his side post 195 for four in 52.3 overs in reply to Multan’s first innings score of 529 for five. At stumps, FATA were still trailing by 334 runs with six wickets in hand.

For Multan, leg-spinner Zahid Mehmood took two wickets for 77 runs in 17 overs.

Earlier, resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 405 for two in 86.1 overs, Multan added 124 runs and lost three wickets in the process before making a declaration in the 112th over.

Zain Abbas, who scored his maiden double century (219 not out) last evening, added 73 runs to his overnight score and was dismissed eight runs short of his triple century. Zain’s innings included 39 fours and three sixes, which came off 337 balls.

Mohammad Basit was other notable batter. He scored 150 off 191 balls, smashing 24 boundaries and two maximums. He could add only eight runs to his overnight score before getting out to Sameen Gul, who ended up taking two wickets for 75 runs.

Karachi Whites v Lahore Whites at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore

Karachi Whites on the back of an unbroken opening wicket partnership of 104 runs between Ammad Alam (63 not out, 104b, 8x4s, 2x6s) and Khurram Manzoor (33 not out, 106b, 3x4s) ended the day against Lahore Whites’ first innings score of 509-9 declared.

Karachi Whites are still trailing by 405 runs.

Resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 345 for three in 87 overs, Lahore Whites went on to add 164 runs, losing six wickets in the process.

Left-handed batter Ali Zaryab could add only 18 runs to his overnight score and was dismissed for 222 off 313 balls, laced with 27 fours and a six. Fahad Munir (72, 128b, 7x4s, 2x6s) and captain Saad Nasim (61, 82b, 6x4s, 1x6) were the other major contributors with the bat.

For Karachi Whites, left-arm spinner Noman Ali took six wickets for 162 in 48 overs.

Lahore Blues v Peshawar at Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Abbottabad

Peshawar’s opening batter Sahibzada Farhan scored 132 off 175 balls to help his side ended the second day’s proceeding on 224 for four in 62 overs. Karman Ghulam was the other contributor with the bat, scoring 43 off 86 balls, hitting four fours and a six.

Peshawar were bowled out for 334 in 85.1 overs at the close of first day’s play.
