Group A
Rizwan Mehmood converted his overnight score of 86 to 189 (274b, 23x4s) as Hyderabad were helped to a mammoth 637-run total in 140.2 overs after resuming the day from 397-4 against Karachi Whites at the Abbasia Sports Complex, Rahim Yar Khan on Saturday - the day two of the opening round of Hanif Mohammad Trophy.
Rizwan was aided by wicketkeeper-batter Ali Shan, who retired hurt for 100 off 130 balls. Mohammad Suleman’s 159 had come on the previous day. In turn, Karachi Whites were 113-2 with Saad Baig (41 not out, 79b, 5x4s) and Mohammad Taha (20 not out, 25b, 1x4, 1x6) on the crease.
At the Multan Cricket Stadium, Faisalabad Region added 131 runs to their overnight total of 338-5 as Lahore Blues dismissed them for 469 in 124.1 overs.
While Abdul Samad was caught and bowled by Aamir Jamal for 161 off 197 balls, wicketkeeper-batter Ali Shan (83, 139b, 10x4s, 1x6) added 29 runs to his overnight score.
No.9 batter Ibtisam Rehman struck a 79-ball 50 to get Faisalabad past 450-run mark. In reply, Lahore Blues’ opening batters Mohammad Saleem (60 not out, 57b, 11x4s) and Imran Butt (34, 57b, 4x4s) put on 100 runs in 19 overs before the latter fell at close of play.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s (AJK) Hasnain Shamir struck an unbeaten century (113 not out, 198b, 12x4s) to give his team a 96-run first innings lead over Quetta as they finished day two with 309-3 in 83 overs at the Dring Stadium, Bahawalpur on a rain curtailed 69-over day. AJK resumed from overnight score of 69-1 in 14 overs.
Group B
FATA, who finished the day two with 237-4 in 63 overs, trail Rawalpindi by 138 in the first innings as their opening batter Mohammad Farooq struck a run-a-ball 108 with the help of 11 fours and four sixes. Mohammad Wasim Khan chipped in with a 106-ball 51.
Earlier, Rawalpindi added 85 runs to their overnight total of 290-5 as they were bowled out for 375 in 108.5 overs. FATA’s Sameen Gul snapped four wickets.
Larkana gained a healthy second innings lead of 295 over Dera Murad Jamali after they finished the day two with 150-1 in 34 overs at the UBL Sports Complex. Malhar Rasool (83 not out, 117b, 10x4s) and Sabit Ali (55 not out, 72b, 6x4s, 1x6) put on an unbeaten 127-run stand.
Earlier, DM Jamali were bundled out for 166 in 55.2 overs in reply to Larkana’s first innings total of 311. Skipper Zahid Mehmood picked up four wickets.
At SBP Sports Complex, Karachi, Multan Region declared their first innings with 454-8 in 117.4 overs against Karachi Blues after resuming from their overnight score of 323-5. Multan faced 28.4 overs on day two as Sharoon Siraj (83, 123b, 8x4s, 1x6) and no.7 batter Arafat Minhas (82, 116b, 7x4s, 4x6s) brought up half-centuries.
In turn, Karachi Blues were 192-3, trailing by 262 runs, at stumps with the help of fifties from Abdullah Fazal (75, 109b, 8x4s, 1x6) and Omair Bin Yousuf (62, 98b, 8x4s).
