Lahore, 29 August 2025: The opening day of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy, which began today in Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur and Karachi, saw six batters scoring centuries as four teams crossed the 300-run mark.
Group A
Faisalabad’s no.4 batter Abdul Samad struck unbeaten 152 off 182 balls with the help of nine fours and six sixes against Lahore Blues at the Multan Cricket Stadium as his team finished 338-5 in 84 overs at stumps.
Skipper Muhammad Irfan Khan contributed a 60-ball 52 comprising six fours and one four. At the close of play, wicketkeeper-batter Ali Shan was also unbeaten 54 off 87 balls having hit six fours and a solitary six.
At the Abbasia Sports Complex, Rahim Yar Khan, Noman Ali-led Hyderabad romped to 397-4 at stumps with the help of Mohammad Suleman’s 185-ball 159, hitting 24 fours and one six against Karachi Whites. He stitched a 143-run stand with no.3 batter Saad Khan (99, 133b, 15x4s, 1x6).
No.5 batter Rizwan Mehmood went to stumps unbeaten on 86 off 109 balls with the help of 13 fours.
Quetta were bowled out for 213 in 58.1 overs against Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) despite skipper Abdul Wahid Bangalzai’s century (104, 168b, 13x4s, 1x6) at the Dring Stadium, Bahawalpur. For AJK Aqib Liaqat (16.1-2-59-4) and Zaman Khan (13-2-36-3) snapped seven wickets together.
In turn, AJK were 69-1 in 14 overs at stumps.
Group B
Larkana’s twin centurions Sabit Ali (115, 180b, 16x4s, 1x6s) and Mohsin Raza (100, 197b, 15x4s) pushed their team past the 300-run mark as they were bowled out for 311 in 89.4 overs at the UBL Sports Complex, Karachi against Dera Murad Jamali.
At the SBP Sports Complex in Karachi, Multan Region finished the day with 323-5 on the board in 83.2 overs against Karachi Blues. The batting effort was s led by skipper Zain Abbas, who collected 124 runs off 171 balls hitting 11 fours and three sixes.
Multan were also helped by wicketkeeper-batter Waqar Hussain’s half-century (85, 182b, 5x4s, 1x6) as he stitched a 214-run stand with Zain. Sharoon Siraj remained unbeaten on 45 off 68 balls at stumps.
Rawalpindi were 290-5 in 89 overs at stumps against FATA as Abdul Faseeh (70, 149b, 10x4s), Atif Khan (54, 88b, 4x4s, 1x6) and Affan Ishaq (54, 149b, 8x4s) scored half-centuries at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi.
