Second XI Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Aamer, Ali, Ashfaq shine on day-one of eight-round fixtures

Karachi, 30 November 2020: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Ashfaq Ahmed scored a century, while Southern Punjab’s Ali Usman took a six-fer on the opening day of the eighth round matches of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy three-day (non-first-class) tournament at three Karachi venues.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa vs Southern Punjab, TMC Ground, Karachi:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Ashfaq scored 105 off 139 balls, hitting 13 fours to guide his side to their 260 all out score after opting to bat first. Mohammad Irfan Khan with 39 runs was the only other notable run-getter. Southern Punjab’s left-arm-spinner Ali Usman took six wickets for 97 runs while Mohammad Irfan and Salahudin took two wickets apiece.

In return, Southern Punjab were 95 for three in 35 overs, when stumps were drawn.

Sindh vs Northern, NBP Sports Complex, Karachi:

Sindh won the toss and opted to bat first; the decision though backfired as they were bowled out for 141 in 44.5 overs. Mohammad Taha top-scored with 50 off 76 balls (nine fours), Hassan Khan made 29 runs. Northern fast bowlers Aamer Jamal and Shadab Majeed did the damage, Ahmed took five while Shadab took three wickets.

At stumps, Northern were 155 for four in 44 overs. Shoaib Ahmed returned undefeated on 51, while Jamal Anwar struck two fours and a six in his unbeaten 50-ball 23. The duo contributed an unbeaten 68-runs partnership for the fifth wicket.

For Sindh, Ashir Qureshi picked three wickets for 43 runs.

Central Punjab vs Balochistan, KCCA Stadium, Karachi:

Central Punjab won the toss and asked Balochistan to bat first, Balochistan were rolled over for 99 runs in their first innings. Abdul Wahid Bangalzai top-scored with 22 runs, Mohammad Ali took four wickets while Kamran Afzal took three wickets for 32 runs.

At stumps, Central Punjab were 161 for seven in 42 overs. Rizwan Hussain top-scored with 54, while Junaid Ali was other notable run-getter with an unbeaten 48 from 62 balls.

For Balochistan, Hayatullah picked four wickets for 50.
