Shahnawaz Dahani, Asif Afridi bag six-fors on opening day of second round

Lahore, 4 September 2025: The opening day of the second round of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy saw four centuries and two six-fors as action unfolded across the six fixtures in Bahawalpur, Multan, Karachi and Rahim Yar Khan.

Group A

Hyderabad’s Saad Khan and Muhammad Sadam hit centuries to put Lahore Blues on the back foot as they racked up 361-2 in 84 overs by the close of play on day one at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Saad remained unbeaten on 164 off 222 balls (28x4s), while opening batter Muhammad Sadam struck a 202-ball 128 comprising 18 fours. The duo also shared a 254-run stand.

Half centuries from no.3 batter Hasnain Shamir (88, 177b, 8x4s, 2x6s) and skipper Hasan Raza (78, 142b, 8x4s, 2x6s) led Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to 286-8 in 90 overs at the end of first day against Faisalabad at the Dring Stadium, Bahawalpur. The duo also put on a 150-run stand for the second wicket.

Faisalabad struck regular blows towards the end of the day as AJK slipped from 252-2 to 272-8. Faham-ul-Haq picked up 3-17 in his eight overs, while Asad Raza and Ahmed Safi Abdullah dismissed two batters each.

At the Abbasia Sports Complex in Rahim Yar Khan, Quetta were bowled out for 216 in 66.2 overs against Karachi Whites after opening batter Bismillah Khan top scored with a century (103, 148b, 14x4s, 1x6) as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Bismillah and wicketkeeper-batter Haseebullah (45, 92b, 4x4s) also put on a 139-run stand after Quetta had slipped to 17-3. For Karachi Whites, Afnan Khan and Aarish Ali Khan picked up three wickets each.

At Stumps, Whites’ opening batters Jahanzaib Sultan (40 not out, 62b, 5x4s, 1x6) and Saad Baig (30 not out, 58b, 3x4s) had put on 75 runs in 20 overs.

Group B

Left-arm spinner Asif Afridi returned figures of 27.2-6-49-6 to help FATA dismiss Karachi Blues for 220 in 70.2 overs at the UBL Sports Complex, Karachi. Opening batter Usman Khan top scored with 55 off 129 balls hitting eight fours.

In turn, Danish Aziz’s three-wicket burst (3-21 in 11 overs) struck FATA as they slipped to 37-4 before recovering to 86-4 in 29 overs by stumps.

Larkana’s Shahnawaz Dahani picked up 6-52 in 15.3 overs to skittle Rawalpindi for 174 all out in 43.3 overs at the SBP Sports Complex, Karachi. Mubasir Khan contributed 52 off 69 balls hitting six fours. In reply, Larkana were reduced to 74-6 before finishing 107-5 in 35 overs at stumps. Skipper Kashif Ali dismissed three batters.

Dera Murad Jamali’s opening batter Nasir Khan finished the day one unbeaten on 131 off 257 balls with the help of nine fours and four sixes as his team scored 272-4 in 90 overs against Multan at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi.

Nasir put on a 127-run stand with Majid Ali (55, 116b, 9x4s) and a 104-run second-wicket partnership with Aqib Junaid (45, 120b, 5x4s, 1x6).
