The opening round of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy 2025-26 ended on Monday across four cities as five of the six non-first-class four-day games finished in draw, while Larkana beat Dera Murad Jamali to bag their first triumph in the tournament.
The second round will begin on Thursday, 4 September across Multan, Karachi, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur.
Group A
Karachi Whites and Hyderabad fixture ended in a stalemate at the Abbasia Sports Complex, Rahim Yar Khan after Whites gained a 29-run first innings lead as they got bowled out for 666 in 170 overs with Mohammad Usman Raheem starring with a brilliant 245 not out off 381 balls hitting 27 fours and five sixes on day four.
In turn, Hyderabad were 63-3 in 15 overs, when both the teams decided to shake hands. Earlier, Karachi Whites added two runs to their overnight score of 466-5 with Usman going from 97 to 245 not out, while putting on a 110-run stand with Saifullah Bangash (56, 74b, 9x4s).
For Hyderabad, Noman Ali and Jawad Ali picked up four wickets each.
Faisalabad and Lahore Blues played out a draw at the Multan Cricket Stadium after Lahore Blues’ first innings reached 286-5 in 64 overs in reply to Faisalabad’s 469 all out. The day three was washed out due to rain.
Beginning the day with 100-1 in 19 overs, Blues’ opening batter Mohammad Saleem fell for 97 off 108 balls, while Umar Siddiq (55, 94b, 3x4s, 1x6) contributed with a half-century. Aamir Jamal hit three fours and one six in his 43-ball 41 not out for Blues.
Only 23 overs play was possible at Dring Stadium, Bahawalpur as Azad Jammu and Kashmir shook hands with Quetta after day three was washed out too. AJK’s first innings total reached 368-6 in 106 overs from 309-3 at the start of play as centurion Hasnain Shamir fell after adding one run to his 114-run total. Quetta had earlier posted 213 all out in 58.1 overs.
Group B
Multan’s Imran Rafiq (101 not out, 190b, 8x4s, 1x6) and Sharoon Siraj (100 not out, 134b, 7x4s, 5x6s) struck unbeaten centuries in second innings as their game against Karachi Blues ended in draw at the SBP Sports Complex, Karachi.
Multan racked up 265-3 in 70.1 overs in their second innings after Karachi’s innings ended on 418 all out with a 36-run first innings deficit in the morning. Imran and Sharoon got together when Multan were reduced to 71-3, when Zain Abbas fell for 51. The duo put on an unbeaten 195-run stand.
Earlier, Karachi Blues’ overnight score of 397-9 stretched to 418 all out.
Test spinner Zahid Mehmood bowled Larkana to a mammoth 274-run victory over Dera Murad Jamali (DM Jamali) as he returned figures of 24.5-2-72-5 in defending the 476-run target. Zahid’s match figures stood 9-143 in 48.5 overs. Pacers Shahnawaz Dahani and Mushtaq Ahmed picked up two wickets each.
Earlier, DM Jamali could only add 59 runs to their overnight score of 142-4 as the Larkana bowlers took 22.5 overs on day four to force the result.
FATA and Rawalpindi played out a draw as the former ended up 149-4 in 51 overs in pursuit of a 305-run target on day four. Mohammad Farooq (50, 58b, 8x4s), Salman Khan Jnr (40, 78b, 4x4s) and Mohammad Wasim Khan (32 not out, 111b, 3x4s) put on the resistance for FATA.
Earlier, Rawalpindi declared their second innings on 260-8 in 67 overs after resuming from their overnight score of 178-3 in 43 overs. FATA’s Sameen Gul picked up four wickets taking his tally of wickets in the match to eight.
