Zain Abbas' half-century puts Multan in a good position on a rain-impacted first day of round 3 of the QeAT 2023-24

Lahore, 22 September 2023: The third-round matches of the premier domestic tournament Quaid-e-Azam Trophy commenced today at four venues of the country.

Lahore Whites v Multan (Gaddafi Stadium)

Multan won the toss and elected to bat first. Captain Zain Abbas put up a 66-run-opening stand with Zeeshan Ashraf. The partnership was broken by Mohammad Irfan, who got Zeeshan out for 24.

Zain, batting alongside Imran Rashid, took his side to 124 before rain forced a break in play. When play resumed after lunch, Imran lost his wicket and Zain continued to bat, now joined by Sharoon Siraj.

Multan managed to score 157 runs, at the expense of two wickets, before match was once again stopped due to rain. Zain lost his wicket immediately after the game resumed after the second rain delay of the day. The captain departed after scoring crucial 94 runs off 149 balls, which included 12 fours and one six.

Multan ended their day at 196, losing three wickets.

Peshawar v Rawalpindi (Abbottabad Stadium)

Peshawar won the toss and elected to bowl first, in the rain-curtailed first day.

Rawalpindi lost three important wickets early on, struggling considerably to get any score flowing. The openers could only put together 15 runs combined, while the number three batter Ashfaq Ahmed could not score any run.

Mubashir Khan and Umer Waheed attempted to rebuild the innings, producing 25 runs between them, before play was closed for the day.

Rawalpindi ended the day at 46, having lost three wickets.

Faisalabad v Lahore Blues (Pindi Cricket Stadium)

In a rain-delayed match, Lahore Blues won the toss and elected to field first.

Faisalabad lost two wickets early in their innings; both Mohammad Awais Zafar and Mohammad Abdul Salam departing without scoring a run.

Mohammad Huraira tried to remain steady on the crease, however, ending up being bowled out by Nisar Ahmed after scoring 36 runs.

At the close of play, Faisalabad were 53 for the loss of three wickets.
