Javed takes seven wickets; Omair, Waqar hit centuries on day two

Lahore, 30 September 2021: Sindh’s Omair Bin Yousuf and Southern Punjab’s Waqar Hussain struck centuries, while Balochistan’s Mohammad Javed took a seven-wicket haul on the second day of the opening round matches of the Cricket Associations Championship (three-day event) being played at the three venues of Punjab.

Southern Punjab v Northern, Rana Naved Cricket Academy, Sheikhupura

Century from Waqar Hussain helped Southern Punjab take a seven-run first innings lead over Northern. Northern in their second innings were 21 for no loss when stumps were drawn for the day.

Resuming their innings on 15 for no loss, Southern Punjab declared their first innings on 336 for nine in 75.2 overs. Opening batter Waqar scored 102 off 123 balls with the help of 16 fours.

Captain Moinuddin was another contributor with the bat with 55 off 69 balls, he hit 10 fours.

For Northern, Raza Hasan picked three wickets for 89 while Aamir Jamal took two for 61.

Balochistan v Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad

Mohammad Javed’s seven-wicket haul helped Balochistan take a 166-run lead over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the close of second day’s play.

Resuming their second innings on the overnight score of 31 for two, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were bowled out for 142 in the 50th over courtesy sensational bowling from left-arm orthodox Javed. Javed ended-up with figures of seven for 65 in 19 overs.

For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Niaz Khan who batted at number nine, top-scored with 41 off 44, hitting two fours and three sixes.

With 77-run first innings lead, Balochistan were 89 for seven in their second innings when stumps were drawn for the day. Ali Waqas top-scored with 23 off 47, laced with three fours and one six.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Ahmed Jamal picked three wickets, while Atizaz Habib Khan and Zohaib Khan took two wickets each.

Central Punjab v Sindh, LCCA Ground, Lahore

Sindh’s Omair Bin Yousaf struck a brilliant century to help his side take a 103-run first innings lead over Central Punjab. Resuming their innings on an overnight score of 32 for one, Sindh scored 396 for eight in their 83 overs. The right-handed Omair hit 19 fours and one six in his knock of 194. He faced 215 balls during his 355 minutes stay at the crease.

Omair was involved in a 180-run partnership for the second-wicket with Saim Ayub (78 off 146 balls, seven fours, one six). Mohammad Shahid coming to bat at number seven was other significant contributor with the bat with 65-ball 61 which included seven fours and one six.

For Central Punjab, Nisar Ahmad picked three wickets for 67 while Mohammad Faizan took two for 35.
