Khayyam Khan and Khalid Usman centuries take Abbottabad ahead in the game

Lahore, 29 September 2023: Khayyam Khan and Khalid Usman both registered centuries for Abbottabad to take their side squarely ahead of DM Jamali on second day of the fourth round match of Hanif Mohammad Trophy 2023-24. Islamabad, trailing by 411 in the first innings, had an unsatisfactory day with the bat, with wickets falling in short gaps. Sialkot’s Ashir Memood remained unbeaten at 128 when stumps were called, making sure his side had a stable time with the bat. Hyderabad has a decent start to their batting after Bahawalpur declared their innings after putting up a mammoth total of 581 runs.

AJK v Sialkot at Muzaffarabad Cricket Ground

AJK started the day at 284 for six. Naveed Malik completed his century (103, 210b, 14x4s, 1x6) and Rohaan Qadri scored an unbeaten half-century (64 not out, 113b, 6x4s, 1x6), as the side got to 346 runs before they were bowled out.

For Sialkot, Mohammad Farhan bagged four wickets for 77 in 25 overs.

Sialkot’s opener Ashir Mehmood had a stellar day with the bat and remained unbeaten at stumps. He scored 128 runs from 186 balls and hit 14 fours and a six. He was helped by Salman Khan, who contributed 42 runs off 83 balls, hitting seven boundaries. Aqib Liaqat was the pick of the bowlers as he grabbed two wickets in the day.

At stumps, Sialkot were 221 for fourin 60 overs..

Islamabad v Quetta at Mirpur Cricket Stadium

Quetta’s Bismillah Khan hit a quick-fire half-century (61, 60b, 8x4s) which aided the side’s ascent to 410 runs before they were bowled out in 109.1 overs.Earlier, Quetta resumed their innings at the overnight score of 318 for five.

Haris Hassan and Mohammad Moeez Khan were the pick of the bowlers from Islamabad; returning with four and three wickets respectively.

Trailing 410 runs, Islamabad batters faltered under pressure and suffered from wickets falling successively. Ali Imran’s knock (49, 119b, 7x4s) was the steadied part of Islamabad’s batting. Jalat Khan got three wickets. Najeeb Ullah supported him by getting two wickets.

Islamabad had lost six wickets and scored only 169 runs in 58 overs by the time play was closed for the day.

Abbottabad v DM Jamali at Multan Cricket Stadium 

Resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 45 for two in 17 overs, a half-century by Shahhab (53, 68b, 9x4s, 1x6) set the tone for the day for Abbottabad. Khayyam Khan and Khalid Usman struck centuries and knitted a 224-run partnership for the seventh wicket to take their side comfortably ahead in the game.

Khayyam (114, 177b, 10x4s, 2x6s) and Khalid (101, 125b, 12x4s, 1x6) were pivotal to the momentum adopted by Abbottabad before the side dismissed for 390 in 99.3 overs. Mohammad Shahid was the pick of the bowlers as he got three wickets. He was supported by Taimur Ali, Abid Ali Mengal and Salim Mal who got two wickets each.

At stumps, DM Jamali, in their second innings were yet to get off the mark after two overs.

Bahawalpur v Hyderabad at Sheikh Khalia Sports Complex Rahim Yar Khan

Bahawalpur resuming their innings at the overnight score of 313 for four, put up a mammoth total of 581 at the loss of six wickets, before they declared the innings and invited Hyderabad to bat.

Mohammad Ammar scored 178 runs in 295 balls. His innings had 24 boundaries and a maximum. The second highest scorer of the innings, Shahid Mirani, produced an unbeaten century off just 95 balls. He hit eight sixes and four fours.

Majid Asghar was the pick of the bowlers, returning with three wickets.

Although Hyderabad lost two wickets early in the innings, half-centuries by Mohammad Suleman (74 not out, 128b, 13x4s) and Ali Ahsan (51 not out, 86b, 8x4s) ensured that the side ended the day comfortably.
