Northern 48 runs ahead after making Sindh follow-on

Lahore, 9 October 2021: Northern were in a commanding position on day two of their round three fixture of the Cricket Associations Championship 2021-22 against Sindh as the latter, while following-on, trailed by 48 with six wickets in hand at the LCCA Ground on Saturday.

Sindh were rolled out for 128 in 34.5 overs with Raza Hasan picking up four for 54 and Shadab Majeed and Kashif Ali sharing six wickets equally between them. Sindh’s Saad Khan scored 66 in the first innings.

Saad, later in the day, scored another half-century as he was unbeaten on 54 in his side’s second innings. Faraz Ali made 65 off 87 (five fours and three sixes).

Saad was joined by his captain Saifullah Bangash, who was on 21 at the close of day two. On the third and final day, both will resume Sindh’s innings at 192 for four. 

Southern Punjab were 72 runs ahead of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad.

It was Ali Usman’s six for 91 that rolled out Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for 260 in 82 overs after they had begun the day on 101 for two. Mohammad Sarwar Afridi top-scored with 61 off 98.

Test spinner Sajid Khan wreaked havoc in Southern Punjab’s second innings as he accounted for five off the six wickets to fall. The off-spinner had the figures of five for 71 next to his name with Southern Punjab closing the day on 130 for six.

At Rana Naved ul Hasan Cricket Academy, Sheikhupura, Balochistan’s problems compounded as they managed 337 for nine in reply of Central Punjab’s mammoth 418 for nine, with the latter 113 runs ahead after their openers had added 32 runs in nine overs in the second innings.

Wicketkeeper-batter Gulraiz Safdar, Fahad Iqbal and Mohammad Shahid scored half-centuries. Gulraiz top-scored with 104-ball 92 (eight fours and three sixes), Fahad made 77 off 115 (12 fours) and Shahid made 50 off 62 (two fours and a six).

Central Punjab’s Mohammad Ali took three wickets for 67. Mohammad Irfan Jnr and Test off-spinner Bilal Asif took two wickets each.
