Shehzad's 97 guides Southern Punjab U19 Whites to second win

Lahore, 21 October 2021: Mohammad Shehzad’s 97 led Southern Punjab U19 Whites to a five-wicket win over Sindh U19 Whites in their Pool A match of the second-round of the National U19 Cup today.

In a Pool A match, batting first Sindh U19 Whites were bowled out for 262 in the 50th over with Wahaj Riaz top-scoring with 76 off 98 which included seven fours and one six. Kashif Ali scored 52 off 60 and struck five fours.

Arafat Ahmed Minhas, Awais Abbas, Faisal Akram, Mohammad Aqib Asghar and Mohammad Ismail picked two wickets each.

In reply, opening batter Shehzad top-scored with a 119-ball 97 hitting six fours and one six. Shehzad was equally supported by Husnain Majid (48 off 61, three fours, two sixes) and Mohammad Uzair Mumtaz (42 off 50, three fours) to help Southern Punjab U19 Whites chased down the target with two balls spare.

In the second Pool A match at the Jinnah Stadium Sialkot, Balochistan U19 Whites Haseebullah century went in vain as Northern U19 Whites overcame by three wickets.

Batting first Balochistan U19 Whites were dismissed for 223 in the 47th over on the back of Haseebullah’s 148-ball 116. He struck six fours and two sixes.

For Northern U19 Whites, Usman Khan picked four for 30, while Abdul Basit and Jahandad Khan grabbed two wickets each.

Northern U19 Whites chased down the target in the 49th over for the loss of seven wickets. Sudais Ulfat (41 off 81, three fours), Ali Hasnain Sabir (33 not out, 44 balls, two fours) were significant performers with the bat.

In another Pool A match at Jinnah Stadium Gujranwala, Central Punjab U19 Whites thrashed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Whites by 64 runs in a low scoring game courtesy hat-trick from left-arm spinner Mohammad Hassan Hameed.

Chasing 153 to win, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were dismissed for 88 in the 28th over. Hassan picked last three wickets in the 28th over to complete his hat-trick and ended-up with match figures of three for six in 1.5 overs. Hunain Shah also grabbed three wickets.

Earlier, batting first, Central Punjab U19 Whites were dismissed for 152 in the 40th over. Mohammad Ibtasam Ahmed top-scored with an unbeaten 43 off 59, hitting five fours. Usman Nadeem scored 39 off 76, laced with three fours and one six.

For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Whites, Mohammad Irfan picked three wickets for 30, while Abbas Ali, Ismail Khan and Mohammad Umer grabbed two wickets each.

In a Pool B fixture at Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium Rawalpindi, Northern U19 Blues defeated Balochistan U19 Blues by four wickets.

After opting to bat first, Balochistan were bowled out for 130 in the 34th over despite the opening pair (Obaid Khan 35 off 26) and Yasir Khan (28 off 43) provided a solid 64-run start to the innings.

For Northern U19 Blues, Faraz Khan, Mehran Mumtaz and Zain Ali Sajid picked three wickets each.

In return, Northern U19 Blues chased down the target in the 25th over for the loss of six wickets. Opening batter Haseeb Imran top-scored with a 63-ball 54 which included seven fours and one six.

Balochistan U19 Blues’ Kabir Raj picked two for 36 in seven overs.

In the second Pool B match played at the Shalimar Ground Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Blues recorded a four-wicket win over Central Punjab U19 Blues.

After being put into bat, Central Punjab U19 Blues were dismissed for 115 in the 33rd over. Opening batter Shahwaiz Irfanullah top-scored with a 30-ball 25.

For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Blues, Salahuddin picked three for 17 in seven fours, while he was supported by Zeeshan Ahmed and Maaz Ahmed Sadaqat who shared four wickets between them.

In reply, Ahmad Khan unbeaten 37 off 26 balls, four fours, one six and Najab Khan (37 off 72, five fours) helped his side chased down the target in the 33rd over with four wickets in hand.

Central Punjab U19 Blues’ Awais Ali picked three wickets for 23.

In the third Pool B fixture, Sindh U19 Blues defeated Southern Punjab U19 Blues by 39 runs at the National Cricket Ground Islamabad.

In a match curtailed to 36 overs due to damp wicket, Sindh after being put into bat were bowled out for 176 in the 35th over. Aaliyan Mehmood top-scored with 54 off 86, hitting five fours. Mohammad Umer contributed a quick-fire 39 off 32, laced with three fours.

For Southern Punjab U19 Blues, Zarrar Shakeel picked five wickets for 28, while Moheer Saeed grabbed two for 29.

In reply, three wickets apiece from Rizwan Mehmood and Khuwaja Mohammad Hafeez dismissed Southern Punjab U19 Whites for 137 in the 31st over.
