Waqar scores 220, Saim and Aamer hit centuries

Lahore, 19 October 2021: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Aamer Azmat and Sindh’s Saim Ayub struck centuries on day two of the ongoing fifth round of the Cricket Associations Championship (three-day event), but star of the day was Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Waqar Ahmed who scored a double hundred against Northern to put his side in a commanding position.  

Resuming their innings on the overnight score of 27 for no loss, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa scored 496 for seven in 83 overs. Right-handed batter and captain Waqar Ahmed top-scored with 220 off 225 balls. His 329 minutes stay at the crease included 30 fours and three sixes.

Aamer Azmat coming to bat at number three scored 101 off 111 balls. He smashed 13 fours and one six, and added 216 runs for the second-wicket with Waqar. Mehran Ibrahim coming to bat at number five returned undefeated on 77 off 64 balls which included six fours and one six.

For Northern, Sadaqat Ali picked four wickets for 147, while Zaman Khan grabbed two for 83 in 14 overs.

Over at the Saeed Ajmal Academy Ground in Faisalabad, left-handed batter Saim Ayub was the star performer for Sindh as he scored 185 to help his side take a 192-run first innings lead over Balochistan.

Resuming their first innings at 126 for two, Sindh were bowled out for 339 in the 81st over. Both batters Saim and Faraz Ali resumed batting on 71 and 49 respectively on day two. Saim’s 185 runs came off 224 balls, where he struck 23 fours. Faraz scored 82 off 143 balls, laced with eight fours and one six.

The pair knitted 184 runs for the third-wicket.

Balochistan’s Aftab Khan picked four for 93 in 18 overs, while Mohammad Javed took three for 97.

At stumps, Balochistan were 101 for one in 39 overs in their second innings as they still trail by 91 runs.

Captain Azeem Ghumman (65 off 124 balls, seven fours) and Ali Waqas (24 off 60 balls, three fours) will resume their batting tomorrow.

Over at the LCCA Ground in Lahore, Southern Punjab still require 120 more runs with six wickets in hand to avoid an innings defeat against Central Punjab.

Resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 164 for four, Central Punjab declared their innings on 314 for nine in 71 overs. Mohammad Waleed batting at number seven returned undefeated on 79. Waleed faced 100 balls and struck 11 fours and one six during his 159 minutes stay at the crease. Mohammad Irfan Khan scored 60 off 69 balls, hitting 10 fours.

Southern Punjab in their second innings were 106 for four in 36 overs when stumps were drawn. Mohammad Umair (30 off 67 balls, four fours) and Hamayun Altaf (23 off 43, four fours) will resume their batting tomorrow.
